Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Thoughts on which teams will be impacted?

What areas people perceive that could be impacted in the upcoming Q layoff as announced by CA.

Team real estate investors and realtors. Official salaried employees paid full time despite working less than part time at Qualcomm.

I think everyone is impacted and also heard that a few teams will be completely removed.

@rqi, all these veterans and program managers should be fired after pip. No package for them. Zero work, zero leadership and only coasting in the last few years. You are forgetting two hour walk with colleagues, only confluence updates on paper and no real work, meetings with zero value to business.

Got an email from SVP yesterday which says there would be minimum to no head count reductions in CPU, GPU & AI. As they are needed more than ever now to meet the growth strategy.

@xzj Can you be more specific? There are so many bad ones that fit that description. (I'm kidding about the first part)

All departments, all BUs, all offices without exceptions will be impacted.
No one is safe at this point. We will be seeing more equity in the numbers. China’s slowdown has been devastating, so anticipate that market will bear the brunt of costs cut.
If you plan to voluntarily take a package, let your manager know.

RFFE is also commodity. No reason to operate the engineering in SD.

@rqi, are you forgetting making everyone wait in a meeting if an investment goes down a little, cribbing about paying 50$ more on electricity bill?

Fat packages with 30 minutes work a day, only program management and no technical knowledgeof project, dime a dozen both in engineering and program management. Schedule a status meeting, learn details on project, make some noise, pick on a junior, update wiki/confuence, work on a nice talk project, repeat.

I think Retail solutions and XR would be on the chopping block. XR is a cool tech but how does one make money on it? Metaverse is a pipe dream.

Package and process technology are so bulky. Pmic design is also bulky. RF Transceiver design is bulky. Camera is bulky. HR is too heavy. QCA is bulky. CE is still bulky. BDC is inefficient too.

Knowing how much corruption and politics is in the organization i can't say who will be impacted but I know for sure QCA should be impacted in a fair and unbiased world. We have too much dead weight .too many senior directors, too many VPs. many of them have no people management skills, and nothing of value to offer to the organization

Let's hope WRD gets it this time. Those lovers haven't produced anything for the past 10 years

Everyone except GPU. All other groups at serious risk, especially RF, WRD, QCA, and CRD.
