Offer from Sabic

Got an offer from Sabic giving 50% increase annual basis. Any convincing reasoning on why I should not take up this offer?

I'm confused why there is so much doubt that SABIC could/would offer 50% more to an EM employee for a role at a similar level (especially from the DS... US is a different beast in some ways). There are process/contact engineers at EM making ~$125k, and internet research suggests there are similar roles at SABIC paying ~$180k. I think for a younger employee, given the YE part of the formula at EM, it might be easy to get a big bump if you have good experience.

Hey TXicans, especially you refining & upstream princesses, can you perhaps think outside of your USGC box?

Troll! SABIC giving you 50% increase? Did you mean 50% decrease?

I am sorry you are just plain lying. Sabic being a pure play chemical company with little name recognition in US pays about 20-30% lower than what an average EM employee gets.

So for you to swing +50% you need to get at least three promotions. They are smart people there. How do I know - I have had offers from them and know a bunch of people at their Houston and Indiana locations.

Hey Pinocchio, no way in h3ll that a competitor in our industry would give you or anyone else for that matter a 50% increase in annual pay for the same job.

XOM, CVX & Shell are the leaders in OVERALL compensation in our industry. So, you are either going to be carrying a camel load of work for that pay or you are comparing apples to oranges.

PS. If you do leave, please do come back here and let us terribly underpaid workers here know how things work out for you.

Many reasons not to jump -- ownership by a foreign entity, likely no pension, the winds of offshoring potentially still to come.

If you think that 50% bump is sustainable it makes a lot of sense to jump.

If you are offered a 25% increase in salary tomorrow to work for another major energy company, you will be better off financially taking the offer.
