Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Talent Redeployment?

Following their last day, did anyone get a talent redeployment email? Apparently it is a path to encourage us to reapply to open positions.

I remember talent redeployment also accompanies salary reduction to fit the laidoff employees into Citi's new org structure.

From how I understand the redeployment program, you are “prioritized” for candidacy for roles as a move to keep top talent, if they accept you into the program. You still have to apply to the role, interview, and get an offer. Your name and resume will be circulated internally to try to match with recruiters and roles. I don’t see any harm in being part of the program, you still need to apply to roles - it’s not like you’re guaranteed a role and will forfeit your severance. That’s why they have the blurb about how it’ll affect your severance and asking HR. It still follows the separation policy.

As the other comments say, the separation policy says: if you redeploy or are rehired at Citi or a subsidiary during the period your severance covers, you will have to pay back the overlap. Eg if you receive lump sum severance in June that covers three months, and you are rehired in July, you need to pay back two months. Best to wait to be rehired until after your severance period coverage, if you wish to come back to Citi.

Same goes for the Warn notice, which is time before termination and severance payout. If you take a new role at Citi or a subsidiary during Warn, you’ll forfeit the remaining warn notice and any severance payout and move into the new job- unless you start after your warn notice ends/same day so they don’t term on the books. But still forfeit the severance.

Read the separation policy in full. If you don’t have your work computer access anymore, just google Citi separation policy 2024 or employee handbook and it’ll pop up.

I agree. If you get redeployed today they might let you go as part of performance layoffs and new team which hires you will not have any idea of your skills. Better to join any other company to prove yourself
I would take the offer after my warn period and a vacation of 3 months and my severance money will be in my hands paid full. I can pass my resume to same manager who can hire me if he likes.

Post ID: @1cxz+1s09aJGf Based on the info I got from HR (which appears to be different depending on who you talk to) if for example you get re-hired 3 months after you received severance, you can only keep 3 months worth of severance and return the rest. I don't trust a word they say. One told me to look for jobs through the Citi external link, another said to look only in the internal site. I wouldn't want to come back to Citi given the probability of getting laid off again in October or further down the line. In addition, I suspect there will be traps laid out to fire people or put them on notice for performance related issues. This will avoid Citi's severance payouts for a lot of people.

Perfect, sounds good. Thank you for the advice. BTW, how’s the job search going for folks who were recently laid off.

Post ID: @1sfb+1s09aJGf But if you get rehired DURING the WARN period Citi will discontinue paying out your WARN money. If you can time your hire at an external employer or rehire with Citi to Start AFTER your WARN period ends, then you can still collect your WARN money. Let's assume the most recent mass layoff WARN period ends June 30 (90 days, April 1 to June 30). If you start your New job whether at an external employer or in Citi on July 1, you can receive All of your WARN money.

So, there is acknowledgment or sign up required from our end?

I got it in my personal email. If there is an internal opportunity and your skill set is a fit, they will match and showcase your resume to the hiring manager and you will be given preference. You could be lucky and you could end up in a much better role than before.

That email is BullSH!T LIES. Talk to an Employment Lawyer who will take your case on contingency https://www.justia.com/lawyers/employment-law/new-york . If you accept Any job within your WARN period (depends on the State: 60 days or 90 days) you lose your WARN money. What you need to do is to time your new job start date to begin AFTER your WARN Period. Many Laidoff Citi employees did this.

The email was sent after 6pm on a Friday. Why, why, why…. It just shows their pathetic attempt to care. Who in their right mind would want to return to that place run by insane Jane. The email states severance won’t be affected by joining the program but HR will let you know how your severance will be affected if you do get a position. Bunch of mo--ns. Leave my severance alone and I might consider it so I can get laid off again in October.

I just saw this email. What a joke! Do they really think anyone in their right mind will give up 60/90 days WARN notice pay out and severance and go back to this insanity? All about retaining the institutional knowledge and talent all of the sudden.

I also liked how they said in the same sentence that it will not affect our severance but "HR Partner can provide details about any potential resulting impact on your severance"
