I get that this discussion is for returning as a contractor to XOM. Does the retirement allow you to join a competitor either as a contractor or an employee? What about PIL/PIP agreements? I assume not but you never know with XOM.

When I did this 10 years ago, I had to wait 3 months. I understand it went up to 6 months later. Who knows what it is today? I'm still working 10 years after retirement, lol.

The FAQ of Pip/Pil addresses this and clearly states nothing limits you from returning as a contractor.

Annuitant system abandoned around 2012.

USA had minimum 2 month wait. UK had 1 month wait. Had to take job with different description.

I think the 6 month wait was if you were going to do the exact same job in same location.

Coming back as a contractor is gone. They got rid of all the experienced SMEs they brought back during the last real layoff 2020. If you are PIPed or PIL the document you sign states you will not seek employment with exxonmobil in the future. They don't want you back and why the he-l would you want to come back.

In the old days (early 2000s), I knew an engineer who retired on Friday and was in the office on Monday as a contractor. I asked if he enjoyed his "retirement weekend."

Was 6 months long ago, later became 3 months - but override with an exception at certain DOAG level. If the need is strong, exception will be granted.

Waiting period is up to your hiring team. I’ve seen it get waived, just look at Guyana and all the good ol’ boys they brought back

I was told that Dallas put an end to this from a very senior level. Was really abused by the “good old boy “ gang. Especially in Clinton.
