Didn’t think so. That was the only term Altice wanted . All other cable / phone companies in the tri- state have that clause ..? The union got iced ..!! U C now ..? They only care about the 3%.

They don’t care. They want the cheap way out . Installs and service calls were always contracted out . And always will . Now 90%.
This shuffle between in-house and contractors existed since the inception of cable . Only way to survive is have a clause in your contract . NO LAY-OFFS , while using contracted labor . UNION GUYS was that in your contract ?

Contractor experience: guy in an unmarked mini van with kid car seat in the back and ladder tied to roof. Wears generic tee shirt that says “cable tv” on it. Does the job as fast as possible. We both know if there are any issues or problems that I, the customer gets screwed and has to waste time on the phone and take another day off the get it fixed. That’s how it works. Because contractors work for different cable systems (they go where the work is) no local knowledge and lets face it , if you get paid by the job- if you get that job that takes longer to get it done right you are effectively giving yourself a pay cut. And who in there right mind will give themselves a pay cut?

Last time I had cable tv installed the contractor who came to install was only interested in getting in and out as fast as possible that he didn’t even want to listen to what I had to say. Even though I had two home runs already run and ready to go. Only after he saw it was “easier” my way then to run new that he quickly changed his mind. Contractor labor- never again.

Same reason I avoid big stores for anything that needs to be installed. Bc I know they are screwing over the guy that comes to do the job . And anyone worth their labor won’t work for big box

Ive talked to countless customers who dont want contractors in their home. They don't trust them. Ive had tons of customers ask if im a corporate tech or contractor. And they know contractors want to get in, get out, get paid and dont give a $hit. Bad company image that causes people to cancel service.

Ya but you know what, as far as the fiber goes I also heard the whole footprint would be done in 5 years now 4 years later it’s out on hold , they fired the whole construction dept and still aren’t even in my Corp . I’d bet it’s another 5 years out . Plus if their system works like A1 and Ubee then they are gonna need techs . Verizon has a fiber network that’s been in place for 12-14 years in our area and they still have tons of techs . The best thing that could happen is these people sell us to a company that was here in America doing the same thing already .

Self install will work in many instances. Especially once everything is full fiber. When the sub needs a self install rescue guess what will happen? They will get charged. Guess who will be doing the work? A contractor because its cheaper and the company will get more money in return instead of paying your 401k, benifits, and insurance on that van you drive. This company will run on bare bones and doesn't care about its customer or you. Those customers that complained time after time. The customer that had a supervisors number. The house you were at 15 times in 3 months. You know the customer you worked so hard on fixing their problem and felt like you were doing the right thing. Guess what that was? Wasted money. Its cheaper to let that customer cancel or refund them $30-$50 a month than send you to their house.

Just did a no contact job today. After i left modem on her steps, she proceeded to text me for the next 30 on how to install it. It wont work, there are to many people who cant drive, never mind install their own equipment. Damn there are techs that can't do an install right, an you expect someone untrained to do it. Laughable. An the sub can run my hip test for me too.

Field Service....kick back as much work as you can. Don’t pick up additional work! Do the bare minimum. Don’t help your supervisor if he asks you to take care of a job. Do the bare minimum. There not interested in your well being, your opinion on any thing. They just want production. Do the BARE MINIMUM! We want to make sure they reschedule calls EVERY DAY!! If you have one job in jeopardy call your supervisor and tell him you can’t make it. Make it harder on management!!!
