Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Go union. Save Yourself.

After 15 years i was given my 2 weeks yesterday. All the techs in my shop was. 40 minutes up the road not 1 union tech was laid off. I was one of the ones who fought this union talk. Boy do i feel stupid. Save yourself.

Everyone does what we feel is the best for us and our future; we don't have unions around here but there has to be a reason why companies pay money big money to bust them. I really hope more of us choose to go union in the future and leave the politics behind.

I don't think going union will protect anyone 100% but I think it would be nice to have another source to contact rather than dealing with it alone but that just my opinion

so unfortunate they let you go, but I wish you and your family well,

Not sure what you mean. I'm doing pretty well.

I can't get a read on who this guy is mad at.

Sounds like you were a guy who only did terms and clocked out at 6 every day . You weren’t coming back anyways . Congratulations!!! You played yourself!!!

Can't argue with that. So far, no jobs saved. I believe in CWA 1103, but it remains to be seen whether they can actually make anything happen in this situation. Still, I feel better knowing I have a union backing me here. I'm glad I didn't swap to Nyack 6 months ago to try and get back into the FTTH project.

Union didn't save Hawthorne, but it buys time. Everyone else got the boot immediately, we get a week where people get to volunteer for the layoff, then another week before the layoff actually happens. On top of that, no contractors in layoff affected departments for a year, and reverse seniority for layoffs, and seniority for hiring back. They need to fill all the laid off positions before they can hire contractors again. None of the "fire all the people that make the most money" stuff they're doing elsewhere.
