The oil business is not crippled and yes it will recover and go on with or without you! This is just another one of many cycles of supply out running demand. It is the support services that suffer the most. Everyone knows the cyclic nature of our business and how lucrative it is and because of that it's participants are highly compensated. Exxon grades it's employees annually and dumps bottom 10% every year. When a cycle adjustment is needed it just does'nt fill spots until necessary. If you want a job with no risk and no accountability go to work for the government.

I think oil and gas has suffered from over value, sanctions in the form of market flooding and also just general economic decay and downturn. Right now we are seeing the looting phase of capitalism in the CEO's.

Whatever the catalyst was that started this downturn, whether it was political or other economic forces, it will endure for at least 5 more years. We will eventually pull out of it. For those still working in the O&G, good luck. It will be a bumpy ride for the duration.

Back on topic yeah this is a situation of oversupply and I think also related to sanctions to punish Venezuela, Russia and Syria whose GDP is wrecked over the losses which in Venezuela is getting the desired result, unrest and possible regime change.
When you increase the supply of a commodity and you do so to flatten your adversary whose 90 percent dependent on those revenues you are flooding the market with you hurt yourself too. We have a more dynamic economy so the pain isn't as bad nationally but we are feeling it.
This max production was planned in Sept of 14 with Saudi. None of you getting let go now are worthless, it's just revenues have dropped.
