Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Pride gone

When I joined the company I was proud of the business. We were profitable. Employee pay was good as were benefits. Organization was growing with many opportunities. Stock was climbing. Credit rating was best. Oh how far we have fallen. Not much to be proud of these days.

Merger is interesting idea. Maybe Chevron can add enough CA rainbow to complement the ExxonMobil good old boys club to create Diversity synergies to sell to the FTC for approval.

I can’t imagine the government would be on board. Would cite antitrust when real goal is to put oil and gas out of business.

Could this be the onset of ExxonMobil- Chevron merger, as reported in WSJ, coming from the CEO’s of both Company in Jan 2021? Trimming of the Organization is in preparation for this to happen in the years to come, just like what happened before Exxon and Mobil merger in the past?

(You can google for this WSJ Report)

There's confidence to the point of being arrogant in the culture. I can't imagine that helps...

You all do know that both Exxon and Mobil went through layoffs before. Count ourselves lucky that is has been so long.

A quarter century ago Exxon was the premier company in the oil industry, no argument. It had three great attraction points:

  • great training programme, copied by the rest of the industry, plus endless opportunities to learn from highly experienced colleagues
  • best relative job security in the industry (no knee jerk reactions in ‘98-‘99 and ‘08–‘09)
  • a real, believable path to retirement even for regular employees

It’s all gone. No more training, or talk of training by vendors. Home of the perpetual disguised layoff. No more pension for regular employees, just pennies on the dollar when they are thrown out at 50. This company is something entirely different, second rate at best.
I’ve seen Arco, Amoco and Mobil before they were bought - floundering companies in the hands of crooks, just waiting to be bought and dismantled.

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, good thing it’s gone. Why don’t you go work for another company? What? They won’t hire you? The reason you are worried about NSI is because you can’t do any better than Exxon. If you could have done better, you would be working there.

I can only agree. ExxonMobil became the laughing stock of the energy industry.

The arrogant clown at the top who ran the company into the ground made it possible.

Fully agree that we are embarrassment and Time will tell the outcome as realism are demonstrated more in social media

See how much a small investor influenced the company

This will continue

Only PRIDE for this company is in rainbow colors, well I guess not even that as they truely NOT believe in colors. They keep singing PRIDE PRIDE because they have to put up with ERGs with other competing companies.

Sad to say but DW and his minions have made XOM into a sweat shop. I used to proudly wear the red XOM volunteer T-Shirt and no longer I would put on any branded apparel for this company. No more free publicity for XOM. Heck, not even a paid one even if all benefits and frills return. Mgmt. showed their true colors since pandemic started and had 0 care for their claimed most valuable asset, people. True, loyalty has been diminished forever to return back. #WeAreNotExxonMobil #Losing

Same for me. My friends even know about this EM layoff forum. What an embarrassment.

Yes I agree. I used to enjoy being out and telling people I work for ExxonMobil. Now I always hope no one asks. We're an embarrassment in many ways now. Mainly stems from poor treatment of employees to reduce the work force. Everyone sees it as a topic of amusement.
