Tomorrow is another sad day for some union employees across several departments. This is not voluntary. It is so sad people lives are being ruined after years of dedication. Lumen just announced yet another layoff.
My manager sent me a meeting request with an email string about something completely different so the meeting was deceiving and disguised. This company is so horribly corrupt and deceitful.. The Titanic has gaping holes of integrity, is rapidly sinking, and the stock is going down, down, down as we speak.... For those that are left... grab a life jacket, secure your lifeboat, because the ship's sinking and they will Dare To Throw you overboard with the sharks... Pathetic...
How much severance was given; such a cheap and horrible company to work for; Brightspeed is getting there.
Sad
Don’t have a huge issue with new techs. They applied for a job and got hired. They get garbage training and zero time to learn the job. They’re hired to do plug and play fiber jobs. I don’t get the feeling many think of this job as a career. And it’s really not anymore. Not like many who have been here awhile. It took me 2 years to get hired by ma bell and I knew I had it made working at a huge utility with good benefits and retirement. I don’t blame the kids today. This isn’t a company who’s going to take care of them. No pension, worse benefits, worse retirement and all around worse company that despite what they say doesn’t care at all about its people.
this SLT is an absolute joke. You can't make this sh-t up. They are literally fu--ing up the company like FJB is fu--ing up the country. No rhyme or reason to the candidate selected for RIF. They are nailing coffins shut on departments with the talent they've off-ed. Unfu--ing believable.
Count yourself lucky - there is no Lumen future……

I thank there is a different between older verses younger employees. As an older guy. I went through an Apprenticeship program. I was taught to be a craftmen.
I was RIFed back on March 29th. Been with the company for 6.5 years, had numerous promotions, and this came out of nowhere. I was a Senior Account Manager and was let go with three others on my team - two of which were tenured and at the top of the salary range for the role. I am almost certain it was our salary that was the determining factor. It’s probably a blessing in disguise because I have not heard of anyone getting a raise my tenure with the company. It’s definitely a mess there - hopefully AI, automation, and Lumen’s digital buying experience will give customers that personal touch. Good luck to those who were let go. You’re likely better off.
You're only proving my point further about the younger workers I've experienced.
stand by what I said about the younger workers in my experience. Think they working hard yet not working hard. Management used to not allow that yet they allow it now. I can say what I want to here.
STFU!!! 😂😂😂😂

"For those of you that spent years working for Lumen, around how much were you guys getting? I just got let go too."
You got let go as a newbie?
Old timer in your group should have taken the buyout. Some stay way over their time.
I've retired early last year.
I was making well over 100k per year for couple of decades.
I was able to retire early at 57. I didn't need any buyout.
If you're with LQ, I think IR got 38 to 39 per hour?
I was with CenturyTel. I was making 32 an hour. I had no choice but to pump in OT as much as I could. It worked out well.
In my experience so far the new younger workers are generally so lazy and no one says anything?..? They just leave their work for the next person while some of us bust butts all day. Its disappointing.
Response young guy: STFU all you ol timers rag on newer workers. Make double the salary and get even use basic technology tools. Plenty of old workers who are stuck in old way of doing things that don’t apply and plenty lazy as well.
So don’t generalize.
For those of you that spent years working for Lumen, around how much were you guys getting? I just got let go too.
I’m a tech. I’ve spent half my life working at this company. I’m ready for a buyout offer but leaving before the next winter anyway. I’ll be doing the company a favor. They want cheap prem techs to do the job. There’s 15 more coming in this month. This company doesn’t care if they can do the job or not. They just want the cheaper labor and us old heads off the books. Same in engineering or sales and I would assume other roles but I can’t speak on those. Good luck to you all. After all these years the end is almost here.
Having been part of the November RIF, all I can say is I wake up every morning so very thankful to no longer be part of the Lumen organization. I wish the best for all who are impacted and hope they share my feelings as time passes.
Come on you guys. Kate needs the extra money to hire another SVP. It's already top heavy, and just positioning for a buyout.
I'm really sorry for those who were let go, those who were rejected and those who are quitting. Hugs to you all.
It's clear that teamwork, trust, and transparency are at the core of Lumen Technologies' future success. - Kate Johnson LOL
Whis they didn’t turn me down for the RIF. Who knows the way it’s going maybe I will get a second bite at the apple. Either way I’m out in October 2 years ahead of my plan 6 months ago.
Total layoff is about 7%
- 5% voluntary, 2.5% involuntary.
In raw numbers it's about 1650/660
I got the email but my team wasn’t affected.
I was just let go today. I was part of the Client Services & Transformation team. The company is so poorly managed. I'm ashamed to have ever joined this organization. Kate and her Microsoft buddies are taking over and haven't brought any value to the org. Pitiful!
How many have been let fo so far in april?
How many "lumen humans" took the EOI?
Did this "wonderful" company not have enough leave during the EOI so now they have to disrupt others?
Company is pathetically sad.
Get the life vests on.
Sending good thoughts and prayers to all
Not sure who all was impacted but I personally work on a transformation team and am part of several things that will be Lumens future yet I was laid off.
The email she sent states pretty clearly that they are looking to get away from telecom's drain on the company. I'd assume this round is coming out of that bucket.
Who got these? Are they to ctl, QF, or corp jobs? This company is horrible NOT being transparent. In all my years have not had such job worries with so many layoffs. If anyone has more details on this email that was sent please post. I’ve asked but no one seems to know or is saying anything. That is hey you might not have a job, you might, who knows, but Kate states transparency. I’d hate to see what being not transparent looks like to her?
Thank you to everyone for posting helping keep us up to date with the “truth”.
Do we know which departments are being affected? Did “everyone” get this email?
I thought it was 1000?
Is this a good news.
A RIF prior to earnings call simple means Q1 numbers are very dismal. This at least gives the call host ability to waste some time explaining how Lumen reacted to their dismal numbers by doing another RIF immediately. It's kinda hard to explain dismal numbers when publicly the company has been tooting their own ho-n for months. Expect more RIF to come.

"Also, I wouldn't invest in a home, buy a new car or plan any expensive trips because you are not too sure on the longevity of the job."
And there's open rec's ....? Wow... talk about 'disrupting the industry', what were the real intentions of Kate, gut the old work force and replace it with fresh-faced, 2-year college educated id--ts beholden to DEI, governed by Artificial Intelligence?
Good luck to everyone who is leaving, by choice or layoff, I sincerely hope you find a better job with some clear vision for a profitable future.
Let me see if I got the Employee Survey Question correct from last week, "Would you recommend family members or friends to work for Lumen?". How can an employee choose"Absolutely", when 1 comes in an 660 go out? You would have to tell your friend or family member not to put up anything personal at their desk. In fact just come to work on day 1 with a pencil. Also, I wouldn't invest in a home, buy a new car or plan any expensive trips because you are not too sure on the longevity of the job. One other question that seems to be a kick in the pants "How much longer do you want to work for Lumen, 1 year, 2-5 years, more than 5 years, etc.?". I'm wondering if people chose more than 5 years and Kate said "we ain't having that!".
I have just arrived at the unemployment office parking lot.
Correction, the email says 660 people
