Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

A little word of advice…….

I spent many years at Intel, gave countless weekends, nights, and holidays to the company. Part of many crazy requests, challenges, achievements and glory.

For the later half of my last decade saw many of the cracks show, through leadership changes, saw many strategy changes, saw many new silly and bold initiatives. There were two constants, FAILURE and fanatical belief Intel would win the next time.

Let’s be serious look around, what is Intel’s competitive advantage these days beyond arrogance and blind fanatical belief Intel has a right for technology leadership and ignorance of the competitors position of strength ?

Don’t be surprised when you can least expect or afford it this company will kick you to the curb in a layoff l! Look at the leadership team you think they care about anything but their career, ego and paycheck ? Have the any fear or humbleness to acknowledge the weakness and precarious position and contingency of any sort for failure… well they can and will lay you off to cover their a$$

@adw+1kdupsiv how do you get that people are self entitled from these posts? What would you know about working hard at anything for over 20 years? Most of the people who worked for Intel a long time aren't bitter, it is just sad to watch something you worked hard to build crumbling. Intel has been struggling to maintain direction since the start of this century but its progress fell off a cliff when it started entitling the rainbow people and URMs. As usual the people who complain about racism are usually racists themselves and those who complain about discrimination are just fine with it when they are benefiting from it. For you, those who think others are self entitled are usually just that, self entitled.

@1quw+1kdupsiv Andy famously said only the paranoid survive, but Pat who learned at the masters feet’s only ideas is IDM and IFS, to things past their time. The irony of this narrative is too funny if it wasn’t so sad what it means to Intel’s future

Innovators dilemma. Not a new idea. What does seem odd is that those inside the company somehow perceive Intel is immune to it.

Repeat this. Intel is not a family. It is a corporation beholden to the shareholders first. Employees as substitutable. They will throw you to the curb. It is the bitter truth but there are better things outside. Develop something that you have/had as hobby. In the long term, this is essential for your sanity and purposeful journey in life. It is the lesson I learned and I am fruitfully and purposefully engaged now. The reason I come here is to see what people are thinking old and new about the environment in the company. Nothing much has changed and in fact has gotten worse. Arrogance, bravado, callousness all encapsulate the coroporation.

Couldn't agree more, been here >20yrs and the incompetence around us nowadays would be laughable in a sitcom show.

Kids coming in with master degree's that can't even wire a plug and us old trade school guys having to train them up, yet we get treated like monkey's because we didn't go high enough in college.. Best of luck with your next PowerPoint guys, I'm out of here.

Everything @OP said is true. We live in an environment of at-will employment, you can leave whenever you want and the company can terminate your employment whenever they want as long as they don't violate laws in doing so.

Executives are actually paying for the decisions that they have made. The bulk of their compensation is in stock. How much of their wealth do you think has evaporated this year. I suspect that most of them would like to have an exit strategy but being a "leader" from Intel probably isn't going to generate a lot of interest from potential employers. Unless the employers are looking for people with experience in layoffs...

Long term Intel will survive, it will be a stressful place to work as it always has been but you can earn a good living if you understand this and build it into your expectations. Two things to never forget, the longer you work for Intel the older you get and the longer you work there the more you cost the company. The latter is what will get you more when the cuts are for cost savings. I worked for Intel twice and the second time I was hired I was over 60. Age isn't the big factor at Intel it is how much you cost. Age gets to be a bigger deal when you are looking for a job. I left both times on my own terms and was compensated well on both occasions.

Keep your skills and resume/CV up to date. Keep up to date on what is going on in your profession and not just what Intel is doing or you could become obsolete.
