Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

Prediction of layoff

Has been through more than 10 times layoff in WD and finally got laid off, I can tell that WD would lay off people every 6 months during bad times. So if you think it's still bad, then count 6 months from last layoff. How to determine it's bad time now or good time, just ask yourself, did WD restore the benefits, 401K?

OP back again here for next prediction. If federal not reduce the rate, and WD stock around $40, then it's mostly like another one. The time should be Wednesday since hybrid work schedule, so I predict either May 22nd or May 29th.

@1qfe+1pA1xh4G HGST did not need WD, WD needed HGST and it's leaned both ways in terms of legacy; each has had their own experience

I'm the OP, and it looks like my prediction is correct.

@wwi Yeah, it's personal. My WD legacy team has 90 people before merged with HGST, now less than 15 left, half were laid off, and half treated badly and left by their own. One of my teammate was senior manager then became Sr. technologist in my team with 20 years+ experience and PhD working as the project lead, now his new boss is 10 years experience MS degree. You know why? right, cause his new boss is from HGST side but he was from legacy WD.

Ditto. I lost count but must’ve have been through at least 20 times. It was a good run for me. I shared a lot of hard times, successes, friendships, learning, and yes, ups and downs in my tenure here at WD. I take no bitterness with me but just great memories and wish everyone present and past every success!

If you were paying attention at AHM, they are planning to restore STI, ACR, and 401k matching. If you don't trust them that's a different story.
It never ceases to amaze me that how much people here either trolling or take what WD does to them very personally. Anyone could get laid off anywhere. That's just a fact of corporate America. Yes, loss of income su-ks big time. But losing your cool, being cynical, and ranting all the time online won't help either.
Good luck!

WD is restoring 401K, STI, ACR from January 2024. Does that mean November 15th is the last layoff?

unless one has a highly specific skill, as in one or two people, a legacy within a certain functions, or one is a long-time leadership favorite, cuts will catch up with most
