Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Got Cut

I got cut today (Tuesday 3/26). My long-standing manager went through a formal script with me. After spending 8 months training a new resource, I was informed that my role was being eliminated (oh, what a word). I had a ton of work on my plate, there are three critical things that got transfered to me but still, they decided to cut me. Now, I do not see folks on visas being cut which makes no sense, you'd want to keep citizens, right? The whole point of having people on visas is to fill the roles that you cannot find citizens for. But, alas, here we are turning this principle upside-down.

I am 62 which probably contributed to this, they were probably thinking that it does not pay to continue to invest in me - but then why did they hire me in the first place at all.

Post ID: @dht+1rJfLLMj Let "Susan" post her SOEID first. After we confirm that the SOEID is real in the Global Directory, then the rest of us posters will post our names. NOT. LOL!

In a couple years if there are layoffs, I’ll def raise my hand. Why just retire when you can retire and get severance!

Post ID: @OP+1rJfLLMj This is some of the reasons why prople do Not share knowledge, information or details and/or do Not want to train other employees. We can become fungible or replaceable. These are also some of the reasons why people hoard and do Not share work. Everyone is competing against everyone else. It's every man, woman, whatever for themselves. Employers tout the Teamwork or we're a Team BULLSH!T but we're rewarded and judged as individuals. If anyone tells you to train a new "Resource", be careful and do Not share or disclose everything you know, just the bare minimum.

@jdm+1rJfLLMj Why on EARTH, "Susan", would anyone put their name on here? Lol. We don't even know if it your real name and no one should use their name on her (or anyone else's). Sound a bit like a planted post to try to change the direction of the convo.

I don't work for this company, but my company is also laying off those who are older and qualify for at least social security. I think this is the just the beginning of the economy downturn in USA. If you look at the "real" unemployment numbers, it is much higher then the 3.9% that's being reported since they don't count the number of people who stopped looking for a job after being laid-off. USA is in a debt crisis with almost $35 Trillion dollars in debt.

Those visas are hard to get, plus person with visa is almost guarantee not to leave, so they give them soulless work. Visa + Soulless work guaranteed = more value than replaceable citigwen

There is no critical work or role. The only critical thing is for Jane to keep her paycheck.

Jobs are moving to India, it's getting harder and harder here in the US, once we cut a role or someone left, if it ever gets back filled, its filled in India.

I had vacation till Friday but got a message to join a call. I knew it was coming but not that fast haha - I lost my access a minute after announcement. Like they were holding a finger on a button “eliminate” while telling me news. Was told HR will contact me with details next week. But being in Florida, don’t expect much from separation agreement.
That is that :) good luck everyone

I’ve been with Citi almost 45 years in September and it is a GREAT company to work for. I was going to retire in September but offered to take a JD package to save someone from being laid off. I’m so happy it worked out for me. It’s a shame everyone is putting negative comments without putting your name. Own up to your comments! I’ve been laid off many times and just applied for a different positions and it was at all stages of my age. You have a 60 day notice period that you can look for a new position at Citi or elsewhere. Layoffs happen at all companies and it’s not all about age. Wish everyone success in findings new jobs at Citi or elsewhere. I love the comment about being 62 and feels like winning the lottery. That is exactly how I feel and I’m 62 as well.

"Now, I do not see folks on visas being cut which makes no sense, you'd want to keep citizens, right?” Please don’t villainize folks with visas because you don’t see it happening.

Lucky you! Take the money and run! In your shoes I'd be looking seriously at early retirement.

Best if luck!

So sorry. I know a few others across age groups and levels (C14, C13, C12) who got cut today and yesterday. It su-ks that they don't even care if you were doing critical work or not, no one is safe.

So Sorry, this happened to be as well, except I was with them 27 years and I am in my 50s. They no longer wanted to pay my salary and got rid of me due to that and my age. They don't care. profits before people

Sorry about that. Corporates just claim that they don’t discriminate employees by age but they do behind the scenes:-(
