If they smoke the managers it will be before earnings are released. Give the stock a nice bump.

Company decided managers were just too vital to let go, the backbone of the industry, so instead they will just furlough 3 employees for every manager they wanted to ax. Then managers will have less people to micromanage giving them extra time to drink coffee and watch tik tok

Fake news! No managers were fired as always

If anything is going to happen to management, it will probably be in October, simply because if they are let go then UP won’t have to pay them their bonus in November.

One thing I’ve learned is that most rumors have at least some portion of fact to it. Today may not be the day cuts will be, maybe it’s next week or another day. From experience, we have always seen the company do bigger layoffs before earning releases (when we had the bigger layoffs), which next one is scheduled for Oct 19. So if the rumor is true that some management cuts will take place, I’m sure it will be before Oct 19. Not trying to keep this dragging on, but just trying to keep it real. The rumors are too great on this very topic for it not to have any truth at all. All we can do currently is do is our job and let everything else work out. Worrying isn’t going to help in anyway. If it helps anyone none of the rumors I’ve heard says more than 10% total layoffs.

@1gld+1oPlvb9Z - who says this is the only lay off they do between now and Oct 19th the earnings release? I wouldn't put it past them to do a bit at a time trying to stay below the WARN act requirements.

Doubtful historically it has always been a Thursday the week before earnings releases to make them look good and bump share prices

Why doesn’t Big Jim just get rid of himself. He’s about useless stocks aren’t going to go up nobody wants to ship with this company when he’s the ceo. And everyone in the country can’t stand this guy. Dude just retire. How much more of your life do you honestly think that you have left. Your 62 have a ton of money enjoy the rest of it and stop making other peoples life miserable.

Senior manager today says vena has cut 1 tear of the 9-10 and he said that confirms he truly does only want 6 tiers. But my guy has no idea supposedly about cuts today. For management.
But who knows.

I believe it. Too many managers were hired the last two years when volumes were up. Volumes have been decreasing for the last year month by month. Writing is on the wall. What’s is interesting to see if they will touch the big shops because the big shops have seen no furloughs of the crafts in the last few years. So it makes sense that they will not touch the big shops. But if they do, that would mean that the crafts are next on the chopping block.

@1qbm It would make sense to do it tomorrow. Quite a few of the management personnel work a mon-fri schedule. Monday would be the start of a new month. Now depending on how the insurance thing works for management, then corporate wouldn't have to pay that insurance for a new month. Not all managers that get laid off, receive a severance package Most of the management at the UP will deserve this. The UP has way too many bad managers, and a good majority of them really don't know what they're doing either. I don't know for sure if it's going to happen tomorrow, but the managers have been acting strange in my area for about a month now. So yeah I believe something is coming. Good luck to them all, but the management brought this on themselves. They ran with PSR because they were told to, instead showing their superiors that it doesn't work. Vena isn't going to stop the cuts until he gets the stock price moving back up.

There are no WARN notices out for any large actual reductions for UP if you look at warntracker.com. It's possible though that this mass restructuring could be happening. Hopefully there will be places for most people if so if they just stop hiring / use this for attrition.

They WILL NOT layoff on a Friday…NO WAY…they’ll want to STEAL one last weekend from you and then axe you on Monday

Unfortunately a good portion of this could affect agreement employees because if the manager laid off has craft seniority, then there is a high chance some agreement employees will be sent home as well to make room.

They'll probably keep the newest diversity hire managers that have no idea what's going on (and make less money) and get rid of the managers who actually understand the business (because they started in a craft) and work together with you as a team to get stuff done.

I’ll believe it when I see it! Plus they’ll enjoy a $100,000+ severance.. poor things

Be prepared! I wouldn't be surprised if the outgoing management tries to grab a hold of someone to go down with them. If the management layoffs tomorrow are true, then it's going to be an ugly day for the UP.

I was told directly from a senior manager that the managerial cuts will be system wide. Yeah losing your job su-ks, regardless of who you are. Vena only wants six levels of employees under him. What those levels are, still has yet to be announced. The management team had to know this was coming. There's more than 10 levels of management at certain locations. If the cuts are wide and deep, then Vena is going to have some explaining to do when it makes the news. He's going to have to explain why the UP is doing massive cuts, when Vena himself expressly said he would not be doing massive cuts.

Don't care if you're a manager or a craftsman, losing your job su-ks.

Before you get walked out , make sure your employee survey is filled out, audits are up to date for the month. And have your phone on after in case they have questions for the territory you covered. Have a courage to care day and be safe.

Just remember. Nothing is forever. Telling your wives, kids etc. Life will go on. Don't let your head get the best of ya. Don't let this company take another one of us from su----e. Just brace yourself. Cut some cost and find something else. God bless you all.
