Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Seems like something has started....

In the VESC/Enterprise Connectivity area. Just found late last night a purchased service provider is being cut from our programs - something like 20 plus people in all. I know others here have reported similar small actions going on in multiple skill teams.

I know stuff likes this happens all the time (well, at least ever since 2008) year after year with agency and purchased services...but can't help but to wonder if this is a prelude of things to come.

@Op post got BD lyrics running around in my brain, adjusted for Ford

Come gather 'round slackers
Wherever you roam
And drink all the Ford water
As others have done
And accept it that soon
The money pond will run dry
Grasshoppers It’s time to start saving
Ants you better start swimming’
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Pass out free money
Don’t slow the EV roll
For CEOs pockets need to be full
And Investors they need to be paid
The battle outside is ragin’
Consultants right-size and low-cost
The walls they are rattling’
For the times they are a-changin'

Come writers and pundits
Who falsely praise with your pen
Readers keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
He who speaks so often
Will never be believed again
The prose it is tellin' who is payin'
For the winner now
Will be later to lose
For the times they are a-changin'

Come GSRs and contractors
Throughout Ford land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
The Ford family and leaders
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't blindly lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’

I am starting to hear about other areas of the company starting to cut purchased services by the end of the month. You can bet both Contract and agency will follow.
Typical Ford Pattern.
I hate to see anyone lose their job. Not a pretty sight to watch.

@1pac I remember the free OT days. One guy in our group was allowed to charge 40 OT a week for 3 years, just because he was oncall every day of the year. All of his coworkers were all deadwood and refused to be oncall. The supervisor had 25 years in and was coasting towards retirement. After 3 years they changed the OT rules so that you could only charge OT if you were paged. The rule was 2 OT hours per page. So this guy did a little coding and you guessed it, he magically was paged 12 times a day. That scheme paid him 40 OT hours per week until he retired. His replacement, a contractor, saw the wisdom in his scheme and has successfully enriched herself.

@1yfv+1fNavKOe the odds are not in your favor.
In a department that varied from 60-120, there were 3 people who unofficially lead the department - figured out what needed to be done, how to get it done and then got it done. These 3 were highly respected and regarded. Two were humble and helped all who needed help. One was a a-ho-e. In the SRD, these 3 were the ones let go from our department. While it was a relief to see the a-ho-e go, the other two left us all shaking our heads.
Since then the department has bulked up on more incompetents and deadwood, lost many good people due to resignations and promoted more id10ts. At some point you say F-it, I am done trying.

You are a cost. From the history of the past three years, you might be better off to look at your % in your pay grade and your age to find out your chance. Viewed from the top, you are one of the people contributed to product poor quality and high cost. They don't want to spend more money to get bad products. They prefer to spend less money to get bad products.

I think many absolutely agree that we need to get rid of people, but it has to be the right people, not just those over 40. As a highly regarded performer, I'm constantly jammed up by the deadwood who can't even handle the simple tasks that I rely on and so add those to my list as well. And so tired of it.

If you were to tell me an SRD was coming and that we would get rid of the low performers, the lame, and overall lazy, I'd say bring it all day. But rest assured the used car salespeople of Ford will endure.

Right on. EC should look at itself. Over the past 2 years, they have quietly built that org up to be close to 8k people. What have they actually delivered? Certainly not enough things to justify their size. And what is up with all the ex-consultants that we've been hiring? More people with lots of opinions, but no clue how to do anything.

Interesting how the almighty Doug Field has lots to say about we have too many "workers" but seems just fine with our bloated management ranks that sit around generating useless work. All I see is another old Ford hack that came back to roost in the Ford barn to crow about how wonderful they are while they sit around sucking up money

Doug Field is correct - too many people for the available work. It has always been that way.

I remember working 10 hours OT per week, not because we needed to, the manager didn't want to lose the budget. Easy money.

Yes, we can't even backfill for people that are leaving. Doug Field is on public record and we have too many people.

Anyone that doesn't think involuntaries are coming is Ann ostrich with his head in the sand.
