Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

To all the H1B haters

To the people hating on H1Bs - while there's a genuine problem with this program and the cultural effects of "some" H1Bs, it is ridiculous to generalize and hate all H1Bs. Do you think successful companies such as Nvidia, Amazon, Apple, MSFT etc do not employ H1Bs? You really think the US tech scene, in general, would be as successful without this program? The hard truth is, some of y'all are incredibly lazy and entitled and greedy. Want the money but do not want to work hard for it. Ready to point fingers once things go south.

Speaking of Intel, hold the upper mgmt for over-hiring! Next time there's an open requisition, ask them if this position is really required, and challenge them about making it open for citizens only! Or perhaps ask your investors and wall street to not be so god-damn greedy!!

Upper mgmt and key decision makers are generally non-H1Bs, hold these people accountable first - rather than sh-----g on the tax-paying, law-abiding and hardworking H1Bs.

@1ekq
the behaviour you've described doesn't exclusively apply to H1Bs, it happens everywhere. Everyone wants to work with people who can push their agenda. DJT got his friends in the cabinet. Look at Intel's board and their work history, they got all their friends on it. PG got his friends in the ELT.
I'm not saying I support this behavior at all by the way, but it's human nature and doesn't apply only to H1Bs.

US has the worst education system of any western country. Fix that and you don't need H1Bs.

The problem in my opinion is the rate at which h1bs from India were being brought into the US coupled with wokeness. I didn’t know how to have a conversation with new hires from India. An American value that everyone is equal. Just because you’re an engineer doesn’t mean u are entitled to being rude to the cafe people, admins and cws.
We don’t have a caste system here..

I was afraid of getting fired so I kept my mouth shut.

Tech dominance? Intel lost it's dominance once it was flooded with h1b. Taiwan has it together, but the h1b have failed to raise to the level of the Americans they displaced.

i don't hate H1Bs just because they're H1Bs.
i just don't like people that get the job just because they are friends with the hiring manager.
i just don't like people that don't contribute to the success of the project because their hiring manager is covering for them.
i just don't like people that are on a project just long enough to check the box on their resume before they move on.
if that sounds like the behavior of a lot of B1Bs then there you go.

Believe me, nobody hates the H1B system abusers more than the other legit H1Bs - the ones who are here based on merit and hardwork, and who want to integrate in America. These abusers are giving us a bad name. Should be removed ASAP!!
That being said, it hardly means that the whole H1B program and it's beneficiaries are bad. There are bad apples everywhere.

@1nyn: that's a more balanced take, and I agree with most of it. While it's not racist to be against the H1B program, it is most certainly racist to bad-mouth non-white H1Bs and hold them responsible for all your current problems.
I agree with your points about remote work and working from one's own country. You think we're happy to be away from family and live in golden handcuffs every day? We are here because America is the land of opportunities and we respect some of your values. America rewards hard working people. Most of us have earned their Master's degrees here in the US and have moulded ourselves to fit in here.
But bear in mind, America also needs us to be here physically to continue it's world and tech dominance, and indirectly for it's national security. If we go back, we are taking the job and talent with us. Then you'll blame us for taking the jobs away from America.
The truth is, both of us need each other, and equally. If you don't want us, challenge your leaders to make proper changes in system to modify or eliminate the program. Stop enrolling international students (who pay extra tuition BTW) in your universities and your research programs. Stop selling the American dream to the world, and stop playing world police.
We're gonna be absolutely fine elsewhere.

"A lot of hate-mongers in here talk about the cultural problems that H1Bs bring - maybe it's time to address the bigger cultural issue of "American greed", which itself gave birth to the H1B program in the first place :)"

again before this gets censored

Being against the H1B program is NOT racist--it's American. There are plenty of qualified engineers of ALL races who are American citizens and ready to work. COVID proved that working remotely is a viable option for many of the jobs out there. Intel and other companies have a physical presence in many foreign countries. So the big question is really this: If you are a foreigner of such high value that you think you need an H1B, why aren't you working for Intel from your own home country? Again, that's not a racist question. Seriously, tear up your H1B and move back home. You'll still be working for Intel, just from a different site.

Tech jobs are being replaced by H1B over US workers not because they are greedy, but because the publicly traded companies are.

Intel over hiring. Another reason that firing Pat is justified.
