Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It's time for me to leave XOM

I was put on PIP this year. I came to this site and talked about my experience. I received many, many kind words and suggestions from anonymous current/former coworkers here. Thank you all.

The past three months were quite difficult and tiring for me both physically and mentally. I lost countless hours of sleep and quite a few pounds, and skipped many activities I used to do with my kids... But now, I finally have the start date confirmed for a job I like --- a growing business, well known work life balance, 30+% increase in compensation, work from anywhere, and a 90+% approval rate of CEO on Glassdoor... So, It's time for me to leave XOM.

To anyone who might be in a similar situation: you do not deserve being treated that way. Don't be afraid of stepping out of the comfort zone and you will find something much, much better...

Yore full of it. I looked on LI at tens of people I know who were laid off or PIPed-off last year. ALL of them have found good jobs, even if it took many months in some cases.

@OP BS.

These posts about people leaving their current employer (usually O&G) for a posh job with ideal working conditions and huge pay increases are (at best) unsubstantiated, and can be found on every board on this site.

Reality: The people being shown the door or leaving on their own are mostly men over age 50 with expert knowledge in legacy systems, and the only work they’re finding is of the 1099 type consulting for specific short-duration projects. How do I know this? I’m the one receiving the resumes and conducting the interviews. Stop kidding yourselves.

What rock did some of you people crawl out from under? The PIP is nothing but an underhanded way to reduce headcount-mostly expensive older technical folks and a few unfortunate younger folks as decoys. Lay off the lies about performance of these folks. Go back to posting on Yammer about how great the company is!

You're new job sounds perfect OP. Just a little too perfect. Not buying it. You won't last anywhere you go because you are entitled young brat who gets upset when a manager give you some tough honest advice. You get PIP'ed because you are not doing a good job. Instead of crying and running away, learn something from it. I'd say it will help you wherever you go but I can see that's a losing cause.

OP - post a pic of the cube on LI and tag it #exxodus.
It drives the XOM managers and brown nosers crazy.

Well, I for one actually don’t care. But, it will be nice for you to no longer have a reason to snivel on a layoff website going forward, so, good for you 🥱

Are you sure stepping out is better? You were a drag and deserved to be on the PIP list. Ranking result does not lie, you were weighed and deemed NSI.

Bottom 8% should just be asked to leave on communication session.

At this point a picture of the Cube and a note saying “my last day” isn’t free advertising for EM, even if some add the “I’m so grateful” boilerplate. Since the goodbye Cube picture made it into an article and has become a symbol of corporate rot, our management is hypersensitive to the topic and encourages boot lickers to post Cube pictures saying “I’m just staying here”.
If you’re not a corporate troll, just remember that not everybody has to do things your way.

I'm not management I just see the cube pics as pretty cringeworthy. The whole "I really want to thank Exxon for the amazing yada yada yada" just reads so pitiful to me. They either fired your a-s or you are leaving voluntarily so you're either still pining for an ex that just dumped you OR you are looking back instead of looking forward. The company doesn't care about you. Don't write them a pathetic love letter on a public forum.

It isn't a fu-k you to the company. A fu-k you to the company is not even acknowledging your moving onto something else. Stop giving them free advertising...how on Earth do you guys not see this??

So many bitter people here. Congrats OP for the next chapter in life. I'm not on pip but also plan to leave. Echo some posts here - move on and do not look back. No cube photo on LinkedIn. And no need to be bitter. Working at xom is mutual agreement between self and xom. We leave for different reasons, toxicity, lack of prospect, limited learning etc but we got paid during the time we are here and we are not forced to be here. It's called at will. It's just a job.

lol do NOT post a cube pic. Do not even acknowledge Exxon at all. That's for chumps.

You update your job title and let people see the notification, that's it.

Look back on your PIP as the opportunity to find the great job you are starting.

Only focus on the good memories of EM and think of EM as just a stepping stone to where you are now.
