Question for folks going into office.
How many hours per day do you go in? Does Broadcom check badge in and badge out times to monitor the number of hours?

just check in for a coffee while there is one. No one cares
going back 10-15-20 years.
Times have changed, you might want to be part of this century, in particular post covid.
There’s a difference between Broadcom having data that shows how long people are on the network and Broadcom having a surveillance apparatus actively monitoring and making employment decisions based on that data.
I have NEVER heard of anybody at Broadcom being terminated for not attending an office and I have never heard of anybody being tracked for time on the network.
Broadcom does not have a draconian surveillance policies. They simply want to know that people are reasonably attending the office on a regular basis the same way they always have been - going back 10-15-20 years.
Just so you guys are aware, while badge checking is reviewed, hours on the “network” from an office are also monitored. If you badge in and then log out of the network after a few hours and then login from home, this is tracked. Trust that Daddy Hock tracks everything to see how productive people are….
Attending an office at Broadcom is mostly a symbolic ritual act to log a badge swipe, grab some coffee and then vanish during your lunch break. Most teams are so fragmented and spread out across the globe that meaningful local in-person collaboration for many of us is a fantasy. Many people find themselves driving to an office only to sit alone staring into slack, gchat and webex from cubicles. The commutes are often exhausting and sap us of energy and enthusiasm that could otherwise be put into our work.
Again there’s nothing inherently wrong with the idea of building and maintaining locally co-located in-office teams and having them working together in offices but that is simply not how teams are built anymore.
The world has moved on
Here in Australia Sydney office, we just badge in so that its on the record. After that its upto us how long we stay, sometimes we just stay for an hour or two and leave. We never sit through the entire shift.
@1noi+1pQHmBAv Due to the remote policy from a couple of years ago, a lot of employees already moved out to somewhere else. I will be in the office solely to represent my team. I do not know the person next to me, and hopefully, not a talkative one. But doesn't matter, I will be on my phone, my headset or zoom meetings. Being in the office is just waiting for the paychecks. I can't wait to leave the office when the time is up. Some lucky folks who moved out or more than 50 miles got away from this.
Because the office su-ks.
Will badge in once a day and will WFH by lunch time. Mgr isn't in the same office, how will they know.
Really dependent on your manager on how long you are in the office. Badge tracking is a binary function, so no current method to track how long you are actually in the office
If you swipe, and don’t have any performance issues then you won’t have an issue if your manager is fine with it
You have to badge in every day. Through the main door of your facility (at least it was that way when they were checking our COVID app every day - we had to self-verify no symptoms and at least 2 vaccine dose up until a few months ago).
I think typically most people are in the office at least 6-8 hours or so. I don't see many cars before 9 or after 6 or on weekends so I doubt many people are in office > 40 hrs.
I've heard some people who really wanted to work from home went to the office, clicked their badge on the reader and opened the door then just went home but I don't know if people still get away with that.
The general rule is badge in during the morning (before noon). You don't have to badge out. If you have to leave early, or go to an appointment, not a problem. Depends a little bit on your manager. In general, act like an adult, get treated like an adult.
Most people are in for 8 hours a day. Manager may allow some latitude to avoid peak traffic.
I know they monitor badging in but it's not something they focus on. You don't badge out. I'm sure attendance will be monitored closely now and bcm will take a hard line for people that choose not to come in. I expect bcm will use a combination of terminations and bonus / rsu impact.
If you make the effort to come into the office, why leave early.
