Waste of people's talent?

It is sad how many people there are in QCOM whose skills and talents are overlooked and underutilized by their current job. Total waste of talent. I made the mistake of not paying more attention to the early signs that my career would stagnate here. I would try to leave much earlier, and this way I lost a lot of time hoping that some things would change.

@1nlv This is easier said than done. Some people are on slave work visa and they can't switch employer easily. Some people already bought a house and have mortgage and kids in school. It is true that career advancement is oneself responsibility, not the boss or the company. However, the point is the company has to be honest with the person from the get go. If the person is aware that he/she is going to do something that doesn't match their skills and they still accept the job then it is their own fault and they shouldn't complain.

People waste their skills not the company! If one stays in a place that doesn’t value them and stays that’s their problem not the company. Maybe you stayed bc no one else wanted to you! Maybe you overvalued your skill set.... if you know what you are worth go out and get what you’re worth – instead of complaining

Amen to this. I saw so many people completely wasted due to racial politics.

Prime assignments were given to the manager's countrymen even if they were worthless.

We had 2 PhD holders on my team who were wasted on basic scripting.

Exactly my story when I worked at Qualcomm. I had a PhD when I joined and I thought I was going to do some decent design work based on the interview focus and the interviewers questions. They did the classic bait–and–switch after I joined and I found myself doing some du–b bench test all day that any technician can do. I felt my hard gained knowledge was a total waste in that company plus I wasn't getting any respect from my managers either. I ended up leaving after one year. I wasn't the only person in this situation. I still don't understand why would they hire someone with a PhD to to technician level job when they can just hire technicians or fresh college grads and pay them much less, in addition they won't leave sooner. I still don't have an answer till this day!
