Yeah… they laid off 30-40% of the engineers working on 60 GHz and beyond (140).

Not sure that the leadership considers these projects vital or important.

Q and other companies such as MaxL use top US engineers to lead and train the overseas junior engineers and team, who in the end of the day take over US engineers' job. In the beginning, it is layout engineer or test engineer, and recent years, it encroaches design engineers, software engineers, plus they put the most advanced project such as 60GHz and above overseas.

AI as it stands is massively overhyped. It is not going to displace engineers unless someone is doing mostly repetitive and predictable work involving very basic programming or scripting. I think offshoring is the bigger threat as you can hire decent engineers for cheap overseas. The pandemic has really messed up the job market in tech, especially in the US. The massive hiring bo-m was a blessing for a few years, but the massive spike in compensation and benefits meant that any slowdown in the economy would lead to an equivalent impact on jobs and salaries when the bad times come rolling in. This is exactly what we are facing right now. The tech industry has seen many such bo-m-bust cycles. I think the bo-m cycle lasted quite a long time this time around as the last bust was around the 2008 financial crisis.

Yeah, difficult times ahead! AI and outsourcing will ki-l the tech market and will hit the services sector hard. From the article, 40% of new graduates are underemployed. The future looks grim. I wouldn't take a lot of debt in this environment.
