Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Upcoming Letters for Some WFH Staff

I’m not the WFH troll that lurks on this board.

I have it on good accord that starting this weekend, for a subset of US VMware offices with seating capacity, employees still classified as Remote and within 50 miles will be asked to physically come to the office 5 days. If they decline they will receive severance. This will occur in waves over time.

Exception are for those with a medical reason (there’s a 3rd party which will vet it) or from Hock himself.

If you are this population and get something this weekend or in the future, please share what you feel comfortable about the letter here.

I suspect they’re turning the sc--ws down now that the dust has settled and they know their office seating capacities.

I’m hearing that from 9-5 you have to wear a leather leash around your neck and bark into your webcam every 15 minutes.

You also have to wear a Chairman Mao, I mean Hock, Red Army cap from Monday to Thursday. Friday is Hawaiian shirt day, so you get to enjoy life a little - but still need wear the leash.

It’s all in the docusign contract.

Some folks in ATL received their letter this evening if they’re within commuting distance (e.g <50 miles). 7 days to decide. If they decide not to return they can receive a separation package.

Your link contradicts your statement. Hybrd is the new normal in the fortune 100.

Full back to office, as per Hock's mandate, is not the new normal and hence I'd say controversial, which is perhaps the nicest thing one could say about him.

Hang on. Weren't all recent Broadcom hires given offer letters that explained the WFO policy? And now those employees are not living up to the terms of the agreement?

Seems like giving severance rather than dismissing for cause is a very generous way to treat these employees.

asking to show up 5 days a week is controversial

Controversial, but not unique. There are many large corporations doing these exact things right now. They're also controversial. But Broadcom is not outside the norm here.

Broadcom asking people back to the office is not controversial .

asking to show up 5 days a week is controversial

Giving less than a week’s notice is controversial

CEO messaging of “get butt back to office” unless “you can walk on water” is controversial.

The only thing here that isn’t controversial is that Hock is a giant ch--e.

Avgo fanboys, enjoy your RSUs working for a total piece of shït human being.

share with your kids his value system so they can also sell their soul for money.

VMware never had a WFH-forever plan so this is just back to the office / back to normal for most companies.

Broadcom asking people back to the office is not controversial .

I think that Broadcom will do everything possible to make more VMware employees want to leave without severance. Expect more HT mandates that increase employee anger.

If you have a psychiatrist or psychologist start the conversation now about the anxiety and panic attacks you have from driving long distances or from being in tight spaces on a subway and/or bus. You've always had it but you're now realizing that it is debilitating.
