Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why is it getting harder for Q to attract talented young engineers?

Perhaps there are many reasons for this? Please discuss.

In Qualcomm, the management layer is much deeper than engineer layer. This is not good and not healthy. The politically wise action is much valuable than working hard. That discourages so many people. Horrible.

Qualcomm should do what Samsung does. Each VP+ person has a 2 year contract. If they hit or exceed their goals they stay. Otherwise they are let go. Qualcomm has too much dead wood. No opportunity for growth. It almost feel like working for the government.

Qualcomm is like a senior citizen retirement community that only needs ok talent to do the work for the crusty old mgt. great place to work if you want to be at the beckoning call of the sh-t mgt who cares only about themselves as they know they would not survive at another company. Qualcomm is calling all c minus engineers or whatever is left over for those how could not get a job at Google, Apple, or Meta.

Speaking if products, what's the difference between a Q product and a stripper?

Nothing. CA is gonna snorts lines with both.

You see him at the last all hands? Holey moley.

"We have so many opportunities, we are going after all of them! Priority you asked? How do we do it? Well..my plan is, we do them all! Yeah, thats right. We do all the projects, all of them! Stay up all day and night if we must! This stuffs great! Try it, try it. Yeah, I know we are hemorrhaging people and don't have nearly enough staff to do half the projects, but if we just do it all, it will be great! We dont need people. We got us right here. Everybody, let's do it!"

Wtf was that?

Some really good stuff! Mainlined it seems.

Don't get me wrong, love the guy. But cannot work at Q. It's as described above.

Qualcomm doesn't attract talented engineers because the products don't require it.

That's only because it wasn't Putin asking to buy Q. Otherwise Trump would have handed it over in a hot minute.

Everyone on here seems to be so confused. Trump loving? Everyone at Qualcomm should be Trump loving bc you would have a job today if not for Trump. When it comes to hiring top tier engineers - this is a funny statement. One would have to look at the innovation of the company which we could only conclude top tier engineers do not come to Qualcomm

@1mmm I used to work at Qcom many years ago and my manager kept telling me I need more visibility. I asked him a few times what visibility exactly means, what should I do different? I never got a logical answer from him, always bs talks for hours with no meaningful results. The culture was extremely bad especially for a young engineer like myself. It didn't matter how much I was able to deliver or how many awards I received, because the senior lead didn't like me for whatever reason, I was the department escape goat. I realized early on this was a toxic environment and I was dealing with a bunch of m0rons, so I left. From the posts and comments I read on this board, it seems the culture is still as bad if not worse than before. I am doing much better now at my new job, I am glad I left. The only thing that I truly miss is living in San Diego.

If you do the real work, you can not be promoted. Instead you should work on increasing your visibility. I heard so many guys talk about visibility. I loved the word of visibility, now I understand the visibility means your political power. Just very sucky environment.

Qualcomm reputation is just horrible. But we can hire 2nd tier candidates with the reasonable package. Those come to Qualcomm to build up skill sets in such short time. Most of them leave Qualcomm within 5 years to pursue the bigger opportunities outside. They know Qualcomm is the most bureaucratic place in the world. Some of them get used to this environment and decided to stay. That's the whole reason why Qualcomm is so political and ineffective.
