Good, pi-s of all the managers that know where all the 'bodies' are buried. They'll make great STB witnesses.

@1mjy Okay that's a fine idea, except for right now. The UP already did the title shuffle before, and it did absolutely nothing for the operations. Fast forward to today and it seems like the UP has more management, then they ever did before the shuffle. The titles listed is basically everything from the EVP on down. OK so what's left? Is it six layers of management, or just six layers of company personnel? I heard from many people and media that said that Vena would make a great CEO at the UP. Look how that's going for them. Just because you "heard" something doesn't at all mean it's going to happen. Does that also mean that your insider HQ director source would have his job cut too? Where else are you going to get your info from if that happens? As much as I'd love to see some of the management eliminated, I'd like to know what positions are left if Vena eliminates all but six levels below him. Can you ask your insider HQ CEO inner circle director person for that information?

They have same # car loads since 2015. Overall business has not grown.

Price increase for what? Garbage service. They drag trains out to show they departed, tie the cars down right outside of the yard, and then pull the power off and use it for a different train. Meanwhile the customer's freight sits idle for days waiting on locomotives while UP lies and tells them their cars left origin. Meanwhile, the yard shows they reduced car dwell even though the cars are still dwelling just outside of the yard. Yeah, lets gouge the existing customers providing a subpar service. If we can't, lets fire people because they are the cause despite being given an operating plan designed to fail. Makes perfect sense.

I’ve heard this from a director inside UP headquarters. They are looking for competitive price increase on customers and if they can’t take price they will reduce headcount. The argument to STB is we’ve raised benefit costs for employees but did not make enough margin to cover these expenses.

Vena also wants to eliminate titles and make it six layers from his position to the lowest position. So no more EVP, AVP, General Director, director, senior manager, manager 1, manager 2, lowest.

Good luck with that! If i remember correctly, the UP still has to report business results regarding service and staffing issues to the STB. There might be quite a bit of explaining to do about why the UP decided to layoff another ten percent of its workforce. That's a he-l of risk for the UP to take, especially when the federal government is watching.
