Engine Auto Start Stop

Why doesn’t Ford allow us to permanently disable this feature in the software?

Not the OP, but I did raise the issue at work. The engineering teams' hands were tied. It was dictated from above........

The auto start stop feature quit working in my Escape. It was annoying and I would not pay one penny to have it fixed.

Who cares, raise the issue at work you imbecile.

This is the layoff forum board, not a place to discuss who has the cheapest pa-ties on sale, go back home to your mom’s basement.

Hopefully your job doesn't have you working on quality / technical issues !

The reason that window is closed is specifically for its impact on FE. Aero wheel and the front grill design of EV are for the same physics.

A little pricy, but worked like a charm on our 2024 Edge. Turns it off no matter how many times you restart. The button in the console shows system is off. You can (but I don't know why you would) turn the start/stop back on. Simple installation.

Window up or down doesn't measurably affect fuel economy.

All these FE arguments are really shaky. FE test is window-up. So, if the FE argument holds, OEM should not allow customer to open the window when the vehicle speed is non-zero for the FE certification to be valid.

@gsc is right, whether you can permanently disable it or not affects whether they can use the feature when the mileage is measured. It comes down to the fact the Ford has a big problem with the average mpg of all its vehicles because it sells so many trucks, which are gas guzzlers. This is the same driver for selling more EVs, even at a loss, the mpg credit they get per EV helps offset the other vehicles with poorer mileage.

Ford cars also have a button to turn it off. The catch is that it needs to reactivate every time the car is started again. If you could permanently turn it off, Ford would not get the credit toward fuel economy goals.

Do Japanese OEMs have a button to turn it off permanently or only for that specific drive?

It’s not required for fuel economy standards. Both of our Japanese cars have buttons to turn it off if we want to.

Because Bill bends his knee at the alter of the environ wackos. Environ wackos hate idling cars.

My daughter's school is a no idle parking lot. I ignore them. No one has ever said anything to me, it might have something to do with my SIG window sticker.

I think the question/request is fair. If tires used for FE certification can be (easily) replaced with a different brand, why would a change be applied to other FE related features, like stop/go, unavailable ?

It’s amazing to me the number of useless replies that show up on this board.
It is required to meet fuel economy standards. Don’t hate Ford. Object to the federal regulations.

Because Ford hates its customers almost as much as its employees.
