Thread regarding Sears layoffs

10 Kmarts now

Actually, 10 Kmarts now. Again, apologies for the quick turnaround but I never declare a store closing until verify it. I called Key West Kmart at 305-293-9211 and they confirmed they are actually closing next Week. Not sure why they are Paying sign up Bonuses for Cashiers then, on their jobs site, but the bottom line is the store is closing. FLORIDA, welcome to the 1-store state, club. The only STATE with more than 1 Kmart is now NJ, but that probably won't last long. They are falling like dominoes now.

We are now at 10 Kmarts total, 4 of which are in the US. I have changed my map to reflect this as well:

FLORIDA

  1. MIAMI

NEW JERSEY

  1. AVENEL
  2. WESTWOOD

NEW YORK

  1. BRIDGEHAMPTON

TERRITORIES:

GUAM

  1. TAMUNING, GU -P

PUERTO RICO

  1. HATO REY -P

USVI

  1. ST. CROIX -P
  2. ST. CROIX
  3. ST. THOMAS -P
  4. ST. THOMAS

Statistics: Kmart absent in 47 states. Now we have 2 states, FL & NY, with only 1 each. There are 4 Kmarts within the proper United "States", total. Of those in the US, zero, have a pharmacy. There are 4 pharmacies in the territories, marked with letter "P".
Additionally, Puerto Rico has 1 Kmart, USVI has 4, Guam has 1, so there are 6 total stores outside of the U.S. mainland. Total of 10 Kmarts left as of now that are not closed or closing.

State with more than 1 Kmart:

NJ: 2

Will not engage with trolls. The terms "United TERRITORIES" and "United States and Territories" are correct. United 50 states are just that.....50 states. The list is correct as is. Troll elsewhere. 4 Kmarts in the United States, 6 Kmarts in the United Territories, total of 10 Kmarts in the US & Territories. Wiki "this".

The terms "United TERRITORIES" and "United States and Territories" are not actually things. It is you that is trolling.

Again, the Wikipedia definition of the United States of America says "It consists of 50 states, a federal district, five major unincorporated territories, 326 Indian reservations, and some minor possessions."

If you don't like it, there is an edit button on that Wikipedia page. Go fix it.

If your list doesn't agree with Wikipedia, then your list is simply wrong.

No, Ga Insider (AKA sirmixalot, sirsimplechoice troll), 4 Kmarts are in the United STATES, 6 Kmarts are in the United TERRITORIES, and all 10 Kmarts are in the United States and Territories. Territories are not states. Now stop trolling, as the bears will not be fed any more. This list is perfect as is.

All 10 are in the US.

Quoting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States: "The United States of America (U.S.A. or USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S. or US) or America, is a country primarily located in North America. It consists of 50 states, a federal district, five major unincorporated territories, 326 Indian reservations, and some minor possessions."

Unless and until you get buy-in from the Wikipedia editors that the United States doesn't include Guam, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands, you need to count them. Don't like it? Argue on Wikipedia, not here.

What did I just Say about AVENEL AND WESTWOOD BEING COMMUTER TOWNS?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avenel_station

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westwood_station_(NJ_Transit)

These towns simply exist for people to take the trains to NYC to work. They are not the future of Kmart (only Guam and USVI might fit that description and even that might be a stretch). Anyway, the train is about to leave these stations and maybe head to Clarksville (reference again to the MONKEES song), so it might be Sayonara Kmart soon, for NJ. We will see.

@1lps+1eJXHjer I Know! In other words, over 99.5% of them have closed. Great success story! If a baseball player struck out 99.5% of his at bats, he probably wouldn't even qualify for the lowest level minor leagues. But for Kmart, it's a huge success! They have stores in such wonderful, hip, cosmopolitan tons such as Avenel NJ (can anyone even find that place on a map, LMAO?). It's just a commuter town for people who cant afford to live in NYC, and have to take the train/bus to work.

** Well done, Kmart! I wish I could be that successful when I grow up, LOL.

LMAO, there is no master anything, and you don't get to allow or disallow anything, troll. Back to bed. Jack had this all under control, Days ago, as he always does. Thanks Jack!

Since this info is now listed on the Master Corporate List which is kept on Reddit, I will now allow your post to stay up.

Fun fact, at its peak in 1994, Kmart had 2,486 stores, and now we are down to 10 (with these remaining ones barely hanging on). 10 divided by 2,486 isn't even half of a percent...

I was mistaken before. The store is actually closing March 13, according to this article. The person I Spoke with on the phone might have been misinformed. https://flipboard.com/article/key-west-kmart-to-close-in-march/f-dcb41d72bf%2Fkeysnews.com

But regardless, it is closing. I contacted several media outlets YESTERDAY in MT, & FL, to generate external links, and it seems that effort Paid off, as we now have links for both closing Kmart locations. Cool.

They actually are going through a regular liquidation, I was wrong before:

https://www.keysnews.com/news/key-west-kmart-to-close-in-march/article_101524b4-72d8-11ec-b767-fb63857364b6.html#:~:text=The%20Kmart%20store%20in%20Key,West%20will%20close%20in%20March.&text=It's%20the%20end%20of%20the,scheduled%20to%20close%20in%20March.

It's Paywalled but try an incognito tab on Google Chrome.

So the consensus below, was that there would be no liquidation, but that was wrong. They are going through a traditional liquidation until March 13. Of course, that doesn't really matter, as the bottom line is they are closing. Probably will be on SB360's page soon.

Yep, to the poster below, not only that, but for the first TIME EVER, the territorial Kmarts (total 6) outnumber the stateside Kmarts (total of 4). I suspect that was the endgame plan, all along, as the only Kmarts with a future, are really Guam, USVI, and maybe PR. I don't see the 4 stateside Kmarts (in NY, NJ, FL), lasting very long.

16% of remaining stores gone in one day. Has to be one of the more epic “announcements” yet.

@pxq+1eJXHjer No idea really. There is no Kmart within 160 miles of Key West, so no idea where they will transfer stuff assuming there's anything left to transfer. Probably didn't want to take the loss of selling the store to a liquidator for Pennies on the Dollar. Just a guess though. Maybe SB360 wasn't interested in buying a store in such a remote location where they would have to send their liquidators down, to. Personally you wouldn't have to twist my arm too hard to get me to go work in the Florida Keys, but that's just me. Lots of scenery down there.

Any idea why they are closing without liquidating?

I'm truly surprised they closed Key West before Miami. Key West Kmart didn't really have any local competition, while Miami Kmart is basically walkable to Targy/Wally. Maybe Miami will be soon, but who Knows?
