RIP Ford Fusion

Last Fusion moved through the assembly line in Mexico last Friday.

It was a good product, just not profitable in a very competitive segment. Tough to displace really established competitors Accord and Camry.

i remember at least in Michigan during the recession and the pathetic "recovery" anyone with a new or newish car alot of fusions were on the road. this was probably 2008 - to maybe 2012ish then fushion seem less and less.

@2whw; absolutely agree. Marketing drives this company. They bloated the Fusion for quick margins, and added tremendous complexity that drove costs up. They continued down that path and now it’s over. The Honda’s of the world build to level schedules with standard option packs, so they can optimize the operations and supply chain to reduce overall costs. The same thing that Henry did with the Model-T, image that.

When the Fusion came out it was stealing sales from the segment leaders
Then Ford in typical fashion under budgeted product refreshes needed to keep it competitive out of sheer greed
Nothing or little to do with the UAW this is management error and no I don’t work for the UAW!

@1lna A company must produce a product for the largest possible market. If you pay your employees peanuts, there will be no loyalty and you will have high turnover. The UAW allows employees to make a living wage, give pride to the workers and allow the workers to afford the product. Henry Ford realized this.

Currently, FMC has no loyalty to it's white collar workforce. The UAW still brings that to the table. FMC pretty much got rid of their car line. How many customers did they drive away with this decision? I don't need a truck or SUV so they have driven away my business.

LOL so how do Honda, Toyota, etc employees afford their cars they don't work for the UAW. If you are a car company that is only marketing to sell to your employees you will lose.

The history of the 5 dollar wage was because Henry Ford wanted to stop turnover of employees. Some companies can afford high turnover and some cannot. Next you will be telling me how great government mandated minimum wage is lol.

@1lln If it weren't for the UAW, the majority of people working on the lines wouldn't be able to afford the product they are assembling.

I presume you have forgotten when Henry Ford starting paying his workers $5 a day? Why?

Not to mention increased HC costs. @ Ford more HC costs are going to be shifted to the white colar employees and retirees.

The Ohio Honda plant is not union. If it is UAW made and the plant is in a high tax city, it needs to be a high priced SUV or truck. The Mexico made Fusion could not compete with high quality and US made Accords or Camrys.

Just amazing that the car company who invented “Affordable Transportation” with the Assembly Line concept can’t compete anymore. But it’s perfectly fine that Honda builds quality vehicles at a profit in the middle of a cornfield in the middle of Ohio for the past 40+ years. So disgusted with this place.
