FWIW - I was a new hire in 2021 as a DCSE. After 15 months in my role & largely exceeding quota, was laid off in the February rounds. Was never given a straight reason as to why (still talk to my old DM to this day). They do not care. You are just a number on a dashboard. Best of luck to all!

To @1leq+1nMZWWgJ who posted the roles who get paid on deals.. yes that's true but it's because commission for almost all of those roles is based on the district, not individual goals.. so in other words every sale that generates a PO, that sale goes to the district and then all commission based roles get a cut. But it's all linked, everyone's benefiting from everything. Encourages teamwork

The FY 2024 Second Quarter Results on Aug 31, 2023 at 3:30 PM CDT, may be more bad news... large layoff in the first two weeks of August will be a nice distraction.

There is too much overlap--yes. However, the world did not move to public cloud. The world talks about moving to public cloud but very few have. Ever last one of my customers says they want to but for many reasons haven't been able to. They are all coming to the realization that it will take a long time to move to the cloud and that it's not appropriate for much of their workloads.

You are missing the obvious thing.

The world moved to public cloud. It just did, no matter what we say, it did.

Vendors had a adapt. All the multiple types of storage and servers and data types converged to simple, singlular platforms to even have a small chance of competing.

So you dont need 17 different teams to sell them. Converged infrastructure with a multicloud needs simplified sales motions and less staff.

Was always going to happen.

That is not entirely true. SPS does not get paid on Data Domain.

There is lots of overlap though. Lots of inside roles that I don’t even know what they do. I don’t think they know either.

Here is the short and skinny. When a PO comes in for lets say Data Domain (data protection hardware) a handful of resources get paid. Let me list those out for you.

AE - Core account executive on the account
DCSE - Data center sales executive
TSR - Technical sales rep
ISR - Inside sales rep
ISM - Inside sales manager (ISR boss)
RSM - Reginal sales manager (AE boss)
AM - Area manager (DCSE boss)
SPS - Storage platform specialist
SPS Manager - SPS boss
iDCSE - Inside data center sales executive
iDCSE boss - Pretty straight forward, boss of iDCSE don't know their exact title.
DPS rep - Data protection sales specialist
DPS rep manager - straight forward enough
iDPS rep - Inside data protection rep
iDPS rep manager - straight forward.

The scary thing is, one person out of everyone in this list is truly "driving" the deal, yet each person listed gets a commission check and or quota relieved.

The worst part is, that is all true if this was a direct deal. Assuming it is channel lead, each person listed + another 10 or so reps would also be added to this list.

This is the reason for layoffs and this is why sales is getting hit so hard. If you are looking to cut cost, look no further.

if you'd know anything you would not be here - as nobody that is safe (and was briefed under NDA) comes to this site.

all we know is its going to happen as it does every day

Why post anything at all if you’re going to spread panic without giving any sort of info?

If you know something spill the tea otherwise this ambiguity reeks of attention seeking desperation.
