Thread regarding Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. layoffs

Drastic over-hiring caused this

Unfortunately this is the result of drastic over-hiring from the wild growth during COVID. That is still poor leadership to overreact like that and assume that growth rate would persist, but the moves made in this change were merely a correction of poor decisions over the past 2-3 years.

@2ldt+1obeSoyg hit the nail on the head.

On the page with who got let go I see it was NOT any upper management. They should have been the first to go. Terrible management teams.

Management is flat-out terrible at the top levels (C suite, SVPs, VPs). Ed still has his hands all over the place, even though he keeps saying he's leaving or stepping back. His idea of retail management is antiquated at times and based on revenge plots at others (remember him saying he'd destroy Fanatics for out-flanking him in the licensed goods market? How'd that go, Ed?) And I like Lauren, but what has she really done to turn any of this around? The SVPs are the worst of the bunch. Sycophantic know-nothings, completely removed from the reality of the real work needing to be done. And while I appreciate any company that tries to build an inclusive culture, I sure has heck didn't see it when my own leadership team was all old white men. The company is on a downward trend, and they need to take a good hard look at leadership.

They are facing need competition as their wholesalers like Nike have realized they can sell direct to consumer. This has caused inventory availability issues because every time I need something they almost never have the preferred items in stock or there’s “1 left”.

They are headed the way of other Big Box giants that direct to consumer selling or online with no B&M has taken down.

More layoffs will come in January before why close year end.

This is the third layoff of at least 150 people in the past 10 years. They never learn, pandemic or not.
