Looks like GM will be culling the so-called “associate” managers for cost reduction.

I mean to say patents in my previous post
Yesterday they let go one of our tech specialist 8th level ...had many parents and publications and work in different areas.
Yep. The staff engineers on the IT/Software side will likely be cut.
All they are is a costly expense and are dead weight. This was mentioned in an HR meeting this week.
You've seen the bathrooms, right?
Can you doubt it?
Staph engineers? Are we running a bio-we-pons lab?
Laying off the staph engineers makes sense since they are 8th level but have no direct reports.
GM has a history of quiet layoffs spread over a year. A few people from each group, but not at the same time so people don't notice.
Why would Chinese EV companies want to wholesale product to GM for retail sale?
To get a GM badge that indicates "quality?"
If the Chinese EVs are actually good, that badging will only last a couple of years until the public trusts their EVs, then they'll cut out the middleman and sell the EVs themselves at a lower price.
Then what will GM sell?
Getting rid of technical expertise says one thing: "We're not going to need them where we are going". Take notice and prepare, this is just the start of the import-it-and-they-will-line-up-to-buy-that-cheap Chinese EV bet. A gambit that will seal the fate of GM.
Time to thin the herd to make room for Hyundai.
There have been “no Meaningful Layoffs”….ROFL
Of course…..GM has been playing the system and forcing people out at g-n point at times, so that significant numbers can be spread out over time.
“You do this or else…”
It’s bad enough they scrape the surface of a WARN notice and evade it.
GM is the kingdom of Toxicity.

This person was agreeing with Janet and citing CNBC yet you attack them and reference A.J.
Take your trolling to the Ford board. No one wants your negative energy.
No one who hears a rumor is going to throw their source under the bus for you
Impossible… Janet Yellen claims there have been “no Meaningful Layoffs” in U.S. economy: https://www.cnbc.com/2024/09/07/yellen-says-us-economy-remains-solid-heading-toward-soft-landing.html
You need to post your name and social security number so we can verify who's asking.
GM is a highly profitable company that runs and treats its employees like it was in bankruptcy. Because... All resources are dedicated to enrich Mary, Paul and Mark with stock sales via stock buybacks.
They will deeply regret this as the global ecomony grinds down and sales stagnate. They will be blamed for destroying one of America's oldest and biggest employers.
Yeah, you are dead on that statement. But, when a company makes a decision that executives and HR agree on, whatever the employees think is irrelevant, no matter how true the facts are.
All they are doing is causing people to have mental breakdowns and causing them to quit/leave GM(some demented concept they started last year and just keep transforming it into more demented forms). All GM is doing in the long run is loosing their prized experienced people who know their stuff and are just saying: “To he-l with this.”
If the Cole Engineering building is truly short on toilet paper, our WoC surveys might as well be used for toilet paper.
DRE-overload was the root cause of the ignition switch glitch. Mary needs to read the Valukas report.
Staffs are the only thing holding this place together from my perspective
It's probably the unions fault. They ruin everything and make vehicles too expensive
Most of the staff engineers are in their 40’s or older.
It’s a bullseye for Arden for cost reduction savings.
“ SLT considers the staff engineers to be redundant, inefficient, and costing GM more money. “ Ole Mary is already in the bull, pen warming up for the next Kick 🦵to the staffs Cohónes 🦵🎱😩
Yep. That is correct. Future talent & cost relocation to West Coast.
I would have to agree. As a DRE we are maxed out workload wise with even more projects coming with no planned additional staff. Plus like you said designers are swamped too. Can’t imagine how they could cut folks in our area and meet deliverables.
The staff engineers on IT/Software/Cybersecurity side will most likely be cut.
Before he left, Mike Abbot was discussing it at executive meetings.
With the previous cuts and year end coming soon, it makes sense to GM’s SLT to flatten IT more because the Staff engineers there will likely be let go(projects get pigeonholed/dumped on someone else’s department) and the org lost people.
It’s like the purge that never ends.

On the design side of engineering, we are definitely understaffed. We are operating at a fraction of what we once were. I would be very, very surprised to see any meaningful number of designers cut. On the engineering side, there may be some redundancies but many are overworked. It's not as lean as the design side but it's a miserable job. Any cuts to engineering or design at this point would definitely be disastrous. I wouldn't put it past management seeing how they are making one bad decision after another. I work in the engineering department and I'm not concerned at all to be honest.
Beyond that, I don't know how "flattening" would affect engineering. It's really difficult to get promoted and how many level 8 non-manager engineers are there???
This to me is a nothing-burger.
Heard the same. The senior GM executives have been talking about it for some time.
It doesn’t surprise me. Every time the SLT makes a decision, they think it’s going to benefit GM in some cost reduction way.
All they are doing is destabilizing the company.
There was an executive meeting yesterday that discussed “Flattening” the orgs to be more cost efficient.
From what I heard from my manager, Corporate wants GM workers to be more productive and complete more projects.
The SLT considers the staff engineers to be redundant, inefficient, and costing GM more money. They are probably going to be on cuts for the end of the year.
Fake.
