Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Average developer here

Not bad, not outstanding. How are the rest of you faring with job search? I’m beginning to panic. The market is saturated by the likes of me and there are crazy expectations. Layoffs and all the hype have caused companies to raise the bar, demanding skill sets that are near impossible to attain—or rather, ones that only a few of us possess. What will happen with the army of us?

Deveopers/Engineers are a dime a dozen now. The market is saturated and it is an employer market. They can ask you to jump through burning rings of fire during interviews with no repercussions. There's something like 250,000 software developers laid off looking for work just in the bay area. Good luck.

If you are looking for a job, definitely look outside of the semiconductor industry. There are many incredible industries that need tons of help. Many corporate jobs available for all positions. Tune up your resume (do not use a CV) and focus on skills versus awards received. If you are dedicated to staying at Intel, then realize Intel still has nearly 4,000 H1B visa applications approved and open so you may want to look at those positions and then see if you match some of the skills Intel's HR department claim they can't find. GLTA.

@1ksn

Jokes aside -we should really look outside of semiconductor field and industry. Within this industry Intel is seen as trash and your resume is garbage by having it listed on it. But outside this world we will have better luck finding gainful employment.

@1ync You're has always been a contraction of 'you are' since the days of yore. Your grammar and your reputation precede you. End of the road. Nothing to do and no hope of things getting better.Thanks for noticin' me, Winnie-the-Pooh.

If your American, apply to the jobs in newspapers. These are posted on newspapers as a final step to sponsor someone for a green card. Companies hope you don't apply, but you should. If you don't hear back you can report them to the Department of Labor, sometimes with a monetary reward. Here's some that Tesla recently posted.

It's a bad job market for sure.
INTEL's name being bad just adds to the bar.
Hopefully in 2025, things will improve.
