Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

What value did Twitter bring before EM

Serious question from an outside Dev not involved with Twitter.

I’m in my mid 20s like many of you. I never used Twitter once in my life.

My reasoning.

  1. No outreach to potential new customers in the dev space.
  2. If you use it enough/ follow enough people your homepage gets flooded.
  3. Any type of automated tweet service, example (stocks) you can get the same real time update from every portfolio out there.
  4. Lots of obvious automated activity across accounts (bots)
  5. It seems to attract the less productive of people.

Twitter provides little to no business value for me personally, and at first glance appears like a toxic time sink.

My question is why did Elon musk buy this terrible company, 2. Why are a lot of internal employees losing their minds over losing their jobs for creating such a valueless social media?

Instagram, Facebook and even Snapchat provides way more business value.

YouTube has came a long way, it really was a college bored, maybe, maybe not get rich project at the time.

Layout wise, content wise, minus the funny trolls Twitter remains dead last in my personal social media valuation.

I think Twitter was only really relevant in the early 2010s when it was just nerds, and wild unmoderated content from all walks of life. That’s how I used Twitter back then and it was fun in the teens, but now I’m adult. I find good trolling funny, but my personal effort to do the trolling is lackluster nowadays.

Elon's best idea so far is to make Twitter more of a content hub like YouTube. If he can offer monetization at a more competitive rate than others, it will definitely attract a lot of people our age to the platform.

The only part I have reservations about is his recent tweet stating that "hateful speech" will get demoted and demonetized, because 40 year old millennials get offended by literally everything. Guess we'll see.

Op again here, I got a lot of views and no answer. I suggest you guys give Elon musk a chance, and actually have projects on your resume to be proud of like a lot of meta/free lance employees.

Meta is going on a possible Temporary decline, I’d like to think musk has some sort of common sense and sees an opening on how social media is used, and gathering new active users.

I’m JS pre EM it was a dog water platform, with EM in charge it’s still dog water atm.

Hope the best for everyone, as a fellow lazy dev.

I’m OP, my first observation of Twitter that it clearly attracts less social, less intelligent people.

Most of my colleagues/friends don’t use Twitter either. For being a tech nerd myself it speaks volumes.

Can anyone explain how Twitter is even profitable, a worthwhile investment. At first glance it just seems like a college dorm room project.
