Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

Why should Amazing, hardworking and Competent engineers worry about jobs?

All the great engineers won't worry because they can get hundreds of offers from any company in the universe.

Unless the "amazing, hardworking and competent" part isn't true...

😬

Many companies are downsizing employees lately, it's not that easy

A working layoff can actually boost morale by eliminating talkers who don't work.

However, we don't see Elon Musk identify competent engineers first before fire. After he fired many, then, place a high demand with threat - if you don't like, take severance. This action pi---s off people. Those who are competent, after been insulted, why do they want to stay?

However, those who are not competent will stay as long as they can since many others are firing, too.

@1mol+1jXJkXly good points.

OP seems surprised at the attitude of current employees here towards wanting to destroy their employer. Why worry about the outcome of something you are working towards?

If I thought the OP was an honest question and not an obvious troll I might suggest the concern comes from the fact that the layoffs are happening across the tech economy, and the Bay Area is being hit particularly hard.

I have some empathy, because in the "arms race" of the last couple years several companies overtired "when they could." These are real people, with real lives, skills, credentials. They are not "straw men (and women)" for whatever agenda is being pushed by Leon's fan bois that they were lazy and entitled. It's just that somebody blinked and suddenly the whole sector realized they had taken on way more talent than they needed, and in their haste maybe hired some folks who weren't performing.

...but if we look at how the new economy treats most of its workers: Amazon warehouse and delivery people, Uber & Grubhub drivers, Tesla factory workers ... the idea that the new centibillionaire overlords consider "the little people" as fungible, expendable nuisances shouldn't surprise. The white collar knowledge workers are being shown where they stand in the class structure. I hope they stand up on their back feet and act accordingly before it's too late.

@1kaw+1jXJkXly Congrats! Keep it under your hat for now - no changing your LinkedIn, no talking about it - because severance usually is not payable if you have a new job. No reason for what's left of Twitter'S HR Dept to know, however. And freeze your TheWorkNumber (look it up).

And lesson learned for all those recently laid off, look OUTSIDE of "pure" Tech. Plenty of jobs still out there.

None of these adjectives describe a good engineer.
Analytical, inquisitive, methodical. Good adjectives.

None of these apply to the Leader.
Analphilic, acquisitive, diabolical.
Dat's our boy now.
