Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Has anyone landed a new job?

Just out of curiosity has anyone actually landed a new job? Do you know anyone who has actually left recently? I know the vast majority of us are applying and many have been for the better part of a year even before the official announcements, but has anyone actually landed something? I personally know at least a dozen or so people have been quietly applying elsewhere with basically no success. On this message board on several different posts I see debates about other places not hiring former Intel employees and from what I can see this appears to be shaping up to be true. Just the thinking about the pure statistics of it more should have been landing new jobs.

I've been looking for 18 months, the only offers I have received have been for jobs that are a 30% pay cut. At this point, I should have just taken them.

After leaving Intel, it took 4 months to get a job.

I took a lower paying job (~15% pay cut) that helped fill in some skills gaps. But the best thing it did was give me a non-Intel job as recent experience.

After just under 2 years, I bounced to the next new job at a new company. Back to more than I was making when I left Intel. Better hours. Better benefits.

But the Intel penalty is real. I suspected when I was job hunting but have heard it directly from more than one hiring manager.

Think twice and then rethink it again before you take a package. It’s not going to cover you through the job search. Find the job then leave.

Job market is very slow these days. Unemployment rate is on the rise. One needs to be very patient if looking for a new job these days. Process will be slow and long, which is normal given the current market state. With job scarcity, it's an employers' market too, which means you will need to be prepared to accept lower pay than under normal circumstances as there will be many others who you will be competing with. You may also need to make compromises such as having to work in an office, moving/commuting to another state, and working long hours and perhaps weekends. It's good to be prepared for the worst case scenario when searching for jobs these days :(

@1jsd... Intel might need to collude in order to understand what is happening in the markets but I am pretty sure those other companies kicking Intel's a$$ can read the markets on their own.

If you are new to the semiconductor industry, the entire industry hires, fires, and freezes job openings all at the same time. I'm sure they all get together and agree to slash job together, which I'm pretty sure is illegal, but they get away with it.
