… and Ladies and Gentlemen, in this corner, in the vomit-colored trunks and wearing that sh-t-eating grin, representing the West Virginia Tourism Board… @1jqu+1qSczIdh!

Why not walk away from SAP. Do you really want to take a job at Microsoft? Google? Ebay? or Amazon? All those companies are also laying employees off and will take an advantage of your situation and force a huge salary cut on you.

Instead of that drama, you could move to West Virginia and start a new career being a Coal Miner. West Virginia has close to 150 operational Coal Mines. The West Virginia based Mining companies are currently in a hiring mode. A Coal Miner could make from $50-80 per hour plus overtime. It just takes some hard work and not minding getting dirty.
The best thing about living in West Virginia is you can explore the great outdoors there when you are not at work. Plenty of hunting, fishing and camping there. You all would be surprised that after you moved there you would want to dump your Toyota Prius you drive now and buy a 2024 Ford 150 Truck and put an American flag decal in the rear window.

Best thing you can do now to avoid the stress of not knowing if you are going to get hit with a layoff notice at SAP is resign. Then you can pack up and move to West Virginia. Once you get to West Virginia start applying to Coal Miner jobs at the Mining companies there. And keep your eye on a 2024 F-150 Truck to buy when Ford Dealers increase the buyer incentives.

You can be in control in such situation rather than being paralyzed or anxious (but I understand the feeling), such as taking the time to upskill, learning new things, getting certifications, refreshing your resume, listing your top favourites companies you’d like to join, applying to jobs and passing interviews (why not) and so on. That’s what I’m doing, until the axe fall ;)

The tone was set with the 2023 layoffs.

Remember Luka trying to make a joke that we had to keep the share price up for the sake of his retirement account?

Good times.

@mca+1qSczIdh - No question that's a great perspective to have. The sad truth is that like you many of us woke up too late. And the reality is for those who have a family, house, mortgage and wanting to prepare for your kids future ( like saving for a college tution), etc, it's impossible to say we aren't going to worry about it - OF COURSE WE ARE!!!

You don't mention from which country you are in, but for those of us in US, the handwriting is already on the wall. Basically SAP has two high cost locations Germany and NA ( which NA HC is probably 90% in US). And for us in the US we know that we will take the full brunt of these layoffs, since none will be coming from Germany and Renjen is now finding out just how powerful the Works Council is - but he is familiar with the US and India and he will get his pound of flesh right out of the good old USA because he knows there is no recourse the employees here have.

It's a sad story for all of us who really worked hard for the company and every ounce of our effort was to insure it succeeded, now only to be rewarded with a severance package - and we are not fools either and we know this is only round #1 and more of this downsizing is to come.

I'd recommend actively not worrying about it, which I've been trying to put into practice and the activity is taking up a reasonable amount of my previous working capacity and will continue to do so until I'm either laid off or not. I was never somebody who came to work to tick boxes and get paid, I genuinely cared about my work, products, company and customers and frankly put far too much effort into it. I've had to try very hard to change perspective recently. I'm focusing on upskilling, there is no going above and beyond, no unpaid overtime, no multitasking during all-hands/other meetings/info sessions, I'm attending every info session on every topic going, zenning out to every recording possible, rather than other more demanding productive tasks. I was somebody who rarely took breaks and short lunches only, this is no longer the case and work is significantly less demanding than it's ever been, I finish the day feeling refreshed. It will be the same every time they pull this sh1t of telling us they might be laying us off but won't tell us for 4 months, maybe they've changed me forever....grim
