Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

2025 Layoffs confirmed (CES, STS)

Had an all hands meeting with Rama this afternoon. Confirmed that a re-org is coming that there will be layoffs soon. Did not give much more information than that.

I recently asked a colleague about the perception that some teams within the Tools and Harness division demonstrate manipulative behavior, and his response was quite thought-provoking.

He suggested that, in general, skilled and capable professionals tend to hire others with similar strengths, while those with manipulative tendencies may be inclined to select individuals who share that mindset.
As he put it, "If you notice team members displaying questionable behaviors, consider that their managers may be even more entrenched in such practices."

He also mentioned a troubling trend where certain managers appear highly focused on securing U.S. work visa classifications like the EB-1 (C) ("Employment-Based First Preference Visa"), which he referred to in a dismissive way .
Where mentioned C stands for "id--t".
According to him, this prioritization can lead to similar dynamics within their teams, where visa sponsorship (for categories such as I-140 or other green card pathways) becomes a motivator, potentially influencing the team culture.

“ Had a 1-1 with Dennis today. He confirmed the same.”

Uh huh. Sure. If you did and posted it I’d be seriously concerned for your job. How many 1:1’s do you think Dennis has in a day?

The reason Tools Team is not impacted by cuts, where other parts of STS, aka CES, are impacted is due to the high degree of innovation and cost cutting capabilities exhibited by that said team. When Schwab wanted to modernize their ability to devliver and deploy, in a continuous fashion, they came up with an innovative method to host make as a service in the Cloud. We have an API wrapping make, running in AWS, GCP, and Azure, with full resiillency, and near 8 nines availablity. Make is so cheap, when compared to Harness and Bamboo. Just a little bit of scripting glue, microservice architecture, and re-use of Web APIs and walah. Make in the Cloud -> MITC.

CES is the Consumer Electronics Show, and is the technology arm of Schwab. Dennis runs this org as CIO.

It seems like there is a re-org every year. Who is running this show?

We are going to have to do more with less. New leaders from outside coming in and they have all the cost cutting ways to make us more “efficient”. Schwab really should be following a digital first model and making heavy investments there. They are still stuck in 90s. They are concerned about offers, but should pause and get their stuff up to speed on what the new generation wants but what does this little nobody knows.

Why was my post deleted? I asked if the tools team that people have posted about and referenced in this thread is the one under Stacey Z in SBM. Why delete that? Stacey is an SVP and a peer of Rama and Andrew D but you leave both of the posts calling out their names. Get it together layoff.com

It appears that while the STS team is experiencing cuts, the Tools team remains intact. Could you shed some light on how they’re justifying their continued support to leadership?
