Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Interesting article from the Seattle Times

They've been planning on gettting mostly out of WA because the BS for years, I think this will be there ticket out.. Boeing was a great place to work at, at one point and time, now its just a high paying job after you've been there 6 years, IF you can make the 6 year mark. Im a 3rd generation Boeing employee and remember when it was family oriented and cared, now you're just a small cog in a large mechanism it seems.

At least our unemployment claims were organized by the company and handled quickly in Oregon . Any suggestions for TAA retraining programs /schools for business and leadership in Oregon? The layoff date is so close to class starting time. it's hard to get in.

To all those saying Boeing needs the skilled workers to complete the work. Sorry man, we all know Boeing will hire just about almost any bum that has a family member already in the company. Nepotism is a big part of the the reason the quality control & professionalism has slipped away from the company. You have your legit hard workers that actually do a good job & take pride in it. And than you have you fat lazy fawks that got in cus daddy put in a word for them to get hired. If you’re going to pay somebody that much money you should have higher standards & requirements to get into Boeing. But Boeing got greedy & needed bodies to push out quantities not quality. And that my friends is why Boeing is failing atm.

There are clear reasons to worry, because the odds are in SC favor. IAM is pointing to a study that shows Everett and Washington has the edge in skilled workforce and experiences etc.. but those are in 2019. With no more tax incentive (I am not sure if I am right about this - but it seems EU forced no tax on Boeing) it is a very different situation now

State Politicians will never allow the entire program to relocate, it’s a huge impact to local businesses, everyone needs to chill.

I seriously doubt that Boeing will relocate the entire 837 program to SC. The program is massive, it will take years, and some resources will be allowed to work remotely. Assemblers and mechanics will be asked to relocate, technical and engineers will be allowed to telecommute. Very little impact to Everett, do not go sell your homes on rumors!

It would certainly fall in line with what that one poster keeps copy pasting about Calhoun being another GE axe.

I work on the defense side of the business in Alabama. Right now we are doing well BUT we have all new management. They seem to care about now and not the future. I have a feeling that Boeing is in serious decline and will be similar stock price as GE with 5-10 years. I hope I'm wrong.

Now it's a notoriously cut throat environment. No more family oriented events. Just a bunch of fat and undersized tough guys who stare at you and wait for you to make a petty mistake so they can make a big deal out of it. Going around trying to make people not like you. And judge your skills on how much your're liked.

And how do you think I fared I came from a different part of the country and I never once kissed their a–. It was tough but I’m retired now but you put it in perfect wording the feelings I felt for the last 10 years. Still wish Boeing well was good to me.

I'm second generation and agree. I remember going to my moms Boeing softball games during the summer. The union picnics. Going to one of her co workers house and playing with the kids. Now it's a notoriously cut throat environment. No more family oriented events. well if you think about it the corruption came from within and the entitlement is obvious from the unions on up PNW is no longer bringing out good leadership. Blame it on the merger blame on whatever it is what it is right now.
