Thread regarding Salesforce.com Inc. layoffs

FY21 Q2 Layoffs- Confirmed

About 1000-2000 employees are in the process of being laid off this week, mostly within the Sales organization and sub teams within specialists and enablement. The organization is planning to run extremely lean next year with little to no special programs or teams. Best of luck to those who have been or are being notified to find another role within 60 days within the company. It is going to be very, very challenging.

They removed the entire Social Studio team and moved all the cases to agents who likely don't even know the login to the platform. As much as it s—s for everyone let go from the social team. I am sure the customers are going to be met with a wall of cryptic made up answers for a long long time.

Apparently UK and Ireland are being informed tomorrow. So we get to wait eagerly in anticipation. The absolutely gall of these people. In a way Im thankful for this reminder on the reality of corporate culture. Admittedly I drank the Ohana kool aid myself. What is incredibly concerning is the fact that there is no way to anticipate these lay-offs in the future. The company is making massive profits, yet we are letting go of Sales, CSMs, AEs within the profit making verticals and product lines. I have never in my 20 years of Corporate experience seen this bs play out. Company wide lay offs are a last resort, when they are actually struggling. I have worked for some pretty terrible companies, but never have I seen complete disregard for livelihoods when there is literally no need for it. I will cringe my brain out next time I hear them talk about Stakeholder capitalism. They are exclusively basing decisions on shareholder sentiment.

Just received an email from Head of UK confirming layoffs in UK, they will be notified by the end of Friday. And one from Head of CSG, it's almost copied word for word how they are shifting roles etc. Rubbish.

No staff from MuleSoft CS globally, confirmed in AH

Support: no announcements, likely Hyderabad migration over the next few years though - SFDC Support SVP said as much in an AH a few months ago; no ticket system except for biggest clients. Docs will need a lot of work for that to be viable.

Marc promised not to lay anyone off for three months back in the late Spring. He used this promise to make the rounds a number of national TV shows (self-promotion).

What a coward for not being on the call and pawning it off to the GAP guy who helped downsize that company significantly.

Former employee here...I really believed that Salesforce was different from other companies but over my 6+ years there I began to realize that the same $hit that goes on at other corporations goes on at Salesforce too. As the company has grown, it’s just become more Oracle-like - which is not really a surprise given that most of the senior managers came from there (including Marc). Still, it’s sad to see how they’re treating employees during a pandemic. Marc always says “trust is the #1 value in business” - sure sounds like BS now.

If they really wanted to save $ all they had to do was cut Benoffs pay to $1 like it should be. Then cut another 12-13 layers of management. It’s not an “Ohana” it’s a business. Now that they’ve been recruiting younger, less experienced employees they can cut the older more expensive employees and call it “right sizing”. All while Benioff makes another billion and takes a few hundred million dollar salary... the shine is off the company. Not such a great place to be after all is it?

Any SE or CSM got affected in Mule.
How much cost would have they saved by laying of so many people. 500m ????

I joined Mule 4 months back. Had lot of expectations. Not feeling good now. I was so happy to see stock price and result thinking that I joined solid organization.

pretty disappointed with the timing of this. All the pieces are 'mis-aligned'; record quarter, stock price bump, Marc's comments on bloomberg. Especially during the current globe situation, there's absolutely no reason why the company couldn't have either waited another 3 months or paid people 4,5,6 months of garden leave.

I just had really close friends let go by Salesforce. These were senior, tenured employees who bled SFDC, and formerly believed in the Ohana. Then on the very day Marc Benioff increases his wealth by $1B, and a record quarter.....he lets 2000 people with families to support go. Disgusting. In the past 2 months and even 2 years they brought in younger, cheaper employees instead of moving the “Ohana” employees to new roles.

Obviously an effort to save money. I can tell you this was NOT strategic! It was financial. I know many of these employees, and they were amazing, smart performers. Again, disgusting move Marc. I’ve seen layoffs......but not like that. Sad, while you go on the news and talk about how difficult Covid is for families. Things haven’t been too bad for you I’d say.

I was laid off from the SF office. My log in immediately stopped working right before The All Hands Call. With how much support Salesforce gives the community ...they should be ashamed of themselves to let this story leak to the news before released to internal employees. I was promised I would know in advance if I would be laid off only to find that was not true. Sad day for Salesforce. Trust should be removed from their core values....

Business 101: A company is not a family. Poor and naive those who see and believe in such BS ("Ohana"). It is a well know trick to trap individuals without a clear vision of their career! As someone said: "You are CEO of your own career". Grow up and stop believing that companies are responsible for their employees.

Hi team and teams! I was not impacted by this layoff but was impacted by a layoff in Feb for a team of 25 of us. It was so distressing and felt very blindsiding. Want to know if it's true if ppl who were let go did lose access to internal tools?? That seems so backwards in helping ppl find new roles internally (assuming that is an option). This is didn't happen to me and my team. We were able to use tools during our 45 day "transition" period.

What happened to Ohana??

For everyone else who is still in the company: With any divisive move (role cuts, benefit cuts, etc) there's a playbook for this: In the next few days leadership will set up some support groups to “listen” to employees as an in-person AOG, nothing will come from it, and it’ll be old news to everyone still there in a few weeks.

All the SF talk about Ohana and transparency is a bunch of smoke and mirrors. The company worries more about Glassdoor reviews than their employees. It sounds like they blocked access to this site from employees company issued devices. This is transparency????

business 101: last qtrs guidance was taken down so naturally costs have to come down given sfdc is public co and also perfect opportunity to look for areas to get lean. It's a real tough break no doubt especially when it happens to you but you also know that if you got into salesforce you can work almost everywhere else and are highly marketable so its an opportunity get out of your comfort zone and grow.

They talk about the Obama (family). What a crock of sh–. It doesn’t look like SF got rid of any of the redundant layers of bs management. Marc dodging the all hands call today is classic. He must be out celebrating his increased wealth while 2000 hard working employees were let go.

There are also a lot of people with inflated titles for the little scope they manage. Directors reporting to directors and VP reporting to VPs. People get promoted for doing the same job as a life time achievement award as opposed to having business need and scope. A lot of unnecessary cost for paying inflated individuals.
