Do you think there will be mass layoffs in addition to ones now during a recession even if it's a short one? I'm interested in opinions. Can AT&T survive given its dependency on the consumer?

The last expense the consumer will give up is their phone. With churn at manageable levels AT&T should continue to operate just fine in a recession.
145+ years of history should give you the answer.

Stop with that. You can't count selling a division and the resulting decreased headcount as a layoff.
Getting rid of unneeded workers. Right sizing the company.

Market crash is deflationary. Would cause a strengthening of the dollar. As for ATT, people don’t turn off their cell phones or Internet. We would be just fine.
