Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Could someone explain....

Forgive me for my ignorance but what exactly is Mr. Wentworth's incentive for leaving a comfortable retirement to try and resurrect Walgreens. If I recall, there was a mention (maybe on Reddit?) of a $12,000,000 Walgreens stock package and a couple million in pay but I would expect there to be more. In the softball interview with Ginger Graham, Mr. Wentworth stated that Walgreens was one of the few companies he would have left retirement for. Maybe he underestimates how tarnished the Walgreens brand is or how disengaged our workforce is. Thoughts?

Perhaps better said, predict he’ll likely try to ‘merge’ WBA w his old haunt- CIGNA… which would explain the high shares/low salary deal he accepted. Everyone always looking out for themselves anymore…

Who would he sell Walgreens to? Amazon?

He’s gonna try to sell Walgreens to one of his former employers. Betting huge. Would seem a huge conflict of interest, but that hasn’t bothered Mr Monaco in years- if ever.

Maybe there is a bigger (promised) payoff down the road. Maybe getting Walgreens setup to go private or be sold will ultimately land him a good kickback of some sorts.

Original poster here…Crain’s Business lists Mr. Wentworth’s salary at $1.5 along with $12 million in stock. Doesn’t seem like much after what Roz Brewer got paid to help ruin the company.

Past people who worked with him at express scrips say there were non stop layoffs while he was ceo it was non stop. Seems like the pattern is starting again. Not that he needs the money he was sitting pretty from his past gigs so not understanding why he would want to be bothered. Employees at support center and stores are angry as hornets. Not sure what he can do to turn around the absolute bitterness that most of us now have towards this company, upper management and the so called “leaders”. Most people are checked out and completely disengaged at this point.

He used to run Express Scripts. So, I think he understands the industry well (at least the insurance side). All those confusing contracts, he would understand. So, he probably knows how to make those contracts better?

Maybe he sees it as a fun challenge in a way. Something he knows a lot about and could potentially make better.
