Unpaid overtime

I've been working more and more unpaid overtime so at this point 40 hours of hard work is a light week for me. And worst of all is that in my case it is somehow implied that it is all unpaid. It is not clear to me how Verizon started to expect me to do so much unpaid overtime? I believe that the situation is similar with others? They take advantage, of course, of people's fear of losing their jobs.

So unpaid overtime sucks , btw it is also illegal. Verizon has been caught doing it before and had to issue checks for every second of that unpaid overtime. Track your hours , then compare it to your time sheet. If they adjust your time sheet have them email u the changes like a receipt. If the board of labor gets enough examples . Hanz and Franz will be headed back to court again

I suspect the driving force behind this is that The Manager gets in trouble if they have overtime on their team.
Even if they tell you this in person reply to them via email, creating a record of the conversation. Summarize what they asked you to do and let them know you can't change the hours you've already worked. Let them know that you understand the expectation that there will no longer be overtime worked, and in the future you'll need to be given the opportunity to leave on time, work done or not, unless they email you asking you to stay, or you email asking dor permission to work overtime and they approve it (via email).
If your manager is expecting free overtime, don't stand for it. Go to the DM, or cc the DM on the email. If the DM backs up the manager and not you, copy the director AND your HR rep. Keep on the side of: I want to work the hours, but you said not without approval, so all I'm asking for is for you to fulfill your part. Tell me it's OK to go home on time, or ask me in writing to stay.
If you think you may get fired for asking ro have clearly set boundaries around time worked, bcc your personal email, and if you do get fired, you'll have a copy of your request to help with any wrongdul termination suit.
Your manager(s) may be trying to pull this cr-p, and give you a hard time for this, but I'd be VERY surprised if anyone for HR would have a problem with this course of action.

Our Director here in the SW has told us not to work lots of overtime and to prioritize family over job. I have been holding it close to 40 hrs and have not had any trouble from management. I am not getting everything done but rather handling priorities. Management has sent the message that they know we can't do it all, and have asked us to just do the best we can. I don't see how we could do it any differently.

You damn well know reps are not working whatever hours they want! Nor do they want to stay any longer than they have to! When you are customer facing and you have customers coming in (store) or calling (customer service) 5 to 10 min before your shift ends you can't just tell them midway of assisting them, sorry buddy I can't help you anymore, I am not allowed OT. Verizon would fire employees in a heartbeat if they did that to a customer. The games stop now!

Verizon has been down this road, and will just blame the employee for not accurately reporting their time. Also since it's been communicated (many times) that you must accurately report your time, employees may end up getting fired for not reporting overtime.

This orchestrated from the top. Weak market management just goes along to protect their own jobs. Hans and his cronies are back to his old game plan he utilized at Ericsson. They are taking the money out of Verizon at the expense of both the customers and employees. He will run with this scheme untill he gets dismissed and collects his 40 million dollar parachute. The man was selected to this very thing he is so good at.

Know your rights people. Look up the Labor Laws in your State and contact the Labor Board in your State if Verizon or any other company is breaking them! The fact that they are STILL doing this even after all the lawsuits and knowing it is illegal is troubling. Verizon is not above the law. Even though they may think they are.

If you're salary it's part of your employment contract. If you're hourly, it's illegal to work off the clock in the State of Indiana. You'd have to verify w your State if that's the case. Are u hourly or salary 🤔

What surprises me is that Verizon still plays this game knowing they have been sued countless times over this. Not to mention it's ILLEGAL. If you are an hourly employee and work overtime they are required by law to pay you overtime for that time. Don't let anyone strong arm you or tell you otherwise. Call the Labor board in your State !

If you are hourly this is illegal and you should talk to HR and compliance. If you are salary there is no such thing as overtime pay.

If you are hourly, you need to get ahold of your human resources rep immediately. This is against company policy and illegal. I know several directors and managers who were fired for trying to get employees to not fill out OT on timesheets. The big dogs don't play games with stuff like this.
