Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Can you fight against an unfair review score?

Please no mean comments- I was bullied by my manager into giving out low ratings for her benefit to only have her turn around to give me a low rating. She is targeting me because I am slated to move into a more senior role and was wondering if I have a case or will it just be her words against mine type of deal?

I know someone that tried a few years ago. Within a month she was on the layoff list

You can file an Internal Dispute Resolution but ONLY if it was scored a 2 or lower. Leave comments in your review to call out the BS. Just be professional and stick to facts.

You can file a dispute in the employee help section on Sparq. I forget what it’s called. I wouldn’t expect much of it though.

if you are already getting promoted why do you care what you get rated?

@1gjq+1r8xP8KL makes a VERY GOOD POINT. Are all Optum ratings bell curves? If yes, that is awful. What if you have multiple high performers? Can you rate the all high and sp-t the money evenly or perhaps fight upper management to get more resources?

If you are not a favorite then forget it. Walk when you decide the time is right. It's not going to get better.

When you say you are targeted because you are moving to a promotion, please explain. Are you changing roles and your manager is already aware? Meaning since you are already moving to another area, they have no incentive to rate you higher so they could give others high scores?

This is exactly what happened to me manager kept on pushing me to take on tech lead position as no one was willing to take it and the moment I refused he kept bullying me. I ended up resigning from job . When he heard me that I am going to put in resignation he did not even answer a phone call from other company asking for my reference glad they called TWN to verify my background. After I left entire scrum team that I was working with was dissolved

Write down in your comments section why you disagree. It came as a surprise, etc. and move on.there were no conversations , or chances for improvement until it’s too late. They’ve got to hear it’s not alright to treat employees this way. They are snakes, your manager has been stating all the reasons you’re a 2 for a while. Don’t kid yourself and have management’s ear. Get out while you can. You don’t have to tell them you are applying for jobs inside the co until after your interview and you think they are interested but before the offer bc management always calls or emails for a referral. It’s a back stabbing co and if you don’t fit there’s no need to stay and suffer.

It is unfair but if you report it, the manager will know and your relationship will only deteriorate. If they would do that to you, no HR investigation will change the core of who the person is and could backfire. I recommend getting that new promotion and after that is secure, send an honest email to your boss’ boss. That way, you are already safely in another position and you can still frame it in a way that you are still being authentic. You can also say you are not seeking anything other than full transparency. But in all honesty, the leaders will protect their leaders and without incontrovertible proof, they will characterize you as disgruntled.

They'll retaliate.

Managers HAVE to give 2's to a certain number of employees.
It's not right, but that's their directive.

Move on. You can't win. And never forget the only function of HR is to protect the company...at all costs. Standing up for and protecting individual employees is diametrically opposed to the job they are tasked with.

What proof do you have? Retaliation and coercion isn’t acceptable by HR policy but it’s not like they really care either. In order to really get movement on this you would need to back it up with some data. Regardless though, anyone can open a case with HR but if it goes nowhere be prepared to find another job, as the toxic manager will still exist and will likely do what they can to get rid of you.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing this. Are there any other leaders with whom you have worked that could weigh in on that for a second opinion? I'm doubtful that HR would be much help.
