Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Oil Companies are being targeted and this is where it is going............

We need to all protect our industry and educate the ignorant people. We all need to pull together and defend our industry, or we will not have an industry. I will never buy a product NF. If you get a paycheck from Oxy or any other oil company it is our responsibility to defend our companies against this type of discrimination. It is only a matter of time before you personally will not be allowed to buy products or services. Could you imagine being turned down for loans, daycare, medical care because you work for an oil company.

Sounds more like someone with a stick up their butt was itching to complain and they saw someone wearing a sweater.

I own Patagonia stuff and there's no stand being taken, it's just good quality stuff. If someone wants to buy me equivalent replacements, then sure I'll be happy to switch.

So by your wearing a Patagonia sweater, you were not taking a stand? Sounds like you're not against taking a stand, just against others who don't agree with you.

Sounds like you need to find another industry to work in.

Our industry doesn’t deserve to be defended. It’s participated, willfully, in destabilizing global systems.

I once received a snarky comment from a colleague because I was wearing a Patagonia sweater. Seriously, these are the things the people in this industry take a stand on... It’s quite sad and frankly disturbing.

People at Oxy discussing ethics like they have any idea what ethics are.

Hilarious.

@1fvl+18oHcwBg yes. A business has the right to refuse service based on any non-protected reason.

You can show me the door if you think I'm an id–t, or I'm wearing a slogan that isn't appropriate (to you) or any number of other reasons. This is your right as a business 100%

Now, there's the potential for blowback if you do so, so any business must weigh the negative publicity with the stance they take. In this case, NF thinks that it's worth it. You may similarly choose to not serve me for and others may boycott you, but that's a decision and economic weigh that you get to make freely.

I think I got it. So, if I think you're an id-t because of your politics, I can show you the door? What if someone doesn't like your hair, piercings or tats? What if they don't like the music you listen too or the slogan on your shirt? They might ask you to leave because they think you're too fat. You may not agree with any or all of these reasons, but based on your logic, I'm assuming you would agree with any business's right (legal rights, not right vs wrong) to deny you service for any of them. If so, I'm not saying you're right or wrong, and would actually applaud you for being consistent.

@srj+18oHcwBg I'm not surprised some of them think O&G should be protected. What other industry can you be in where your productivity per dollar is lower than the DMV?

The gravy train of no work for high pay is ending. And people are freaking out.

Poorly thought through and horribly selfish, but not surprised.

@axo+18oHcwBg you're obviously too thick to understand the concept of a federally protected class and the difference between that and the right to refuse service.

I can refuse service to you as you're an id–t. But I cannot do so for being of a certain race or gender etc. Got it yet?

Actually Oxy has been getting with it. They have been out in front of it for about a year and have partnered with United Airlines as well. I have to say they got out in front of the politics before most of the majors. The public needs to educate themselves on the companies making the effort.

Oil needs to get with the environmental program. The mainstream society and investors are now more concerned about the climate than whether the oil companies do well.

@axo+18oHcwBg So you think oil and gas workers should be a federally protected class of people? Unbelievable. There's life outside of this industry and you're not stuck with it from the moment you're born.

Don't you love it when people play the victim card? B-but...they're targeting us! Lol.

So if I choose not to do business with you because of your race, s-x, religion, nationality, etc., that's OK with you? If you say no, you're a hypocrite. If you say yes, at least you're consistent.

It's not discrimination. Private companies have the right to choose who they want to do business with.

If you're a fan of free enterprise, you'd get it. Similarly, you can choose to avoid businesses like NF if you choose.

Regardless, this is not discrimination. It's the right to refuse service.
