Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Under utilized managers being laid off next?

I heard that vps, directors, managers, supervisors and team leads with less than 5 direct reports were going to be part of the next lay off. Probably a good cost saving idea and long overdue but any truth in that?

They do whatever they want and however much or little they feel like doing.

What do people managers actually do at Sabre?

Are there any actual requirements?

It really doesn't seem like it.

Rather than only managing 5 people it seems like they could easily each manage 10x that number considering the effort they seem to be putting in per person now.

Work less, get paid more. Seems like an amazing deal.

You're actually wrong. Senior executives are not the heart or soul of the company simply because they are there for the benefits, the popularity and in a short period of time they will change into some other company etc. They are also replaceable, especially when they don't bring results. The problem with Sabre is that there is nobody with a pair of b.lls to kick these inefficient executives and their puppies out. This is why today the boat is sinking and they desperately are cutting staff to show they have high income.

And to be quite frank you sound more like one of them. What's the matter? The fat bonus on the day of layoffs was not good enough to keep you busy?

Everyone knows the workforce is the most valuable asset on each company. But when you come from the 70s and 80s mentality obviously for you are disposable. But don't forget that everyone is, especially poor leadership.

Regardless, there is no way this poor company will recover so run whilst you can.

To @umq. That's a common misconception. Individual contributors are not "heart or soul" but just resources. Fungible resources. Everyone knows this.

the heart and soul of a company, not just Sabre, are the people below that seniority not overpaid inefficient executives with minimal knowledge.. everyone knows this

That's unlikely. Managers, directors and VPs are the heart and the soul of this company. Without them there is no Sabre.

Something I have never understood is people reporting to a manager of the same level as themselves. How many instances do we have have of VPs whose boss is a VP, many! I believe that when they do this RIF again they should first ask for volunteers and determine whether there is a supply of people without forcing people to leave against their wish.

Depends. There is one with "protected back" moving from one position to another since the layoffs. Surprisingly skipped all layoffs so far and continues to do so. They should wipe them all out as they have been inefficient for many years.

I hope it is true. Finally. What is the point to managers with no teams? Or directors with only 1 manager, reporting to another director?
