Thread regarding SAP layoffs

I just want this to be over

This wait is draining every ounce of energy from me. I'm constantly in a heightened state of anxiety thanks to this whole mess. If there are going to be layoffs, why is it so hard to give us an exact date and make sure that date is not a month or two down the line? What do they gain from dragging this out like this?

The benefit for them is to make you leave the company without paying anything by disgusting you out of the company and forcing you to resign

Notified by email? That would be a first in the US, right? I agree that is the best way to do it, so everybody finds out at the same time.

That would include employees in Canada?

North American employees should get an e-mail on April 15th.

In 2019, I got a meeting request and told that day of meeting my job was eliminated. I was blindsided but they gave me good severance and 4 more weeks of employment. I do feel bad they are dragging this out. Morale must be very low.

Works Council is European, not German. Trade Unions/social partners are local.

Last year, in Q1, everyone was paralyzed with “when is the layoff happening?” You think they would have learned: pull of the band-aid as fast as possible and move on. They didn’t learn, and it’s dragging on too long. That being said: it’s happening the week of April 8.

And for the commenter who thinks that the German Workers Council helps any of us outside of Germany, you’re clueless. The Workers Council is one of the major things that holds this company back. There’s way too much “protect German jobs” going on. We have mo--ns running product. It should have bee moved to Palo Alto years ago. McDermott tried that. He got constantly rebuffed. This company will continue to wallow in mediocrity because of the “protect Germans” mindset.

What would it help to know the exact date? You know more or less that it is April, who cares if it is 1st or 20th of April? You do your job as usual.

German Workers Council and the fact that this company has German roots are the reasons, why it is much more fair with employees than any other tech firms.

If you want to be handled as trash and get fired via mail or a mass meeting, feel free to join to a US software company.

Blame the German Workers Council for these things getting dragged out for months. You can't just announce restructuring and then do it a week later. There are regulations there and in other countries that prevent that.

It is probably because this year they want to sync the news across regions. Last year they told US 2 months before UK which made it very difficult for UK. This year it is equally bad for everyone so we all share the same feelings lol

You could also stop visiting this toxic website: most of it so far has been unfounded rumors anyway.

In our team in the UK, we've been told everyone "should" find out on the 15th by e-mail and/or a call with your manager. I've heard the 8th too.
