@em we didn't pick him, I assume the Board did. Every townhall meeting is a platform for him to tell you how great he is. How this guy got to the top is astonishing. He is an embarrassment to BCBSFL leadership.

@3jb I'll believe it when I see it. And it would be hard to not see it. To reiterate, a 40% reduction in staff for a health insurance carrier the size of BCBSFL would be "front page of the NY Times" level news.

@2hw I wish this was true, however, as one that was in the meeting with BP when the 40% cuts were announced.... It was all AI focused. He wants to ship as many of our apps to SaaS, then whatever is left is being opened up for a bidding war against MSPs and internal departments.

@1j5 It's not trolling. And I am CERTAINLY not defending BP. But a "25-40% reduction in staff" would literally be record breaking. 15-20% is usually considered the upper bound for a company that is not in truly desperate times. And that is for companies that have healthy profit margins and cash on hand to help with the transition. A not-for-profit health insurance company with a federally mandated cap on admin costs would NOT be able to survive such a drastic change if we're talking layoffs in a short time. That is why it would be national news. It would cause panic about the collapse of the entire system. It is also NOT the kind of thing that a CEO announces in an IT All Hands meeting months ahead of cuts, and they especially would not openly say that it was due to AI due to the obvious bad PR they'd get. I might remind you that health insurance company CEOs are still a little sensitive about bad PR due to a recent....incident.

I think most likely someone misheard. Either the cuts are much less than "25-40%", or that was meant as "over the next 10-15 years" kind of figure. Even if they are much less, nobody I've spoken to at FL Blue (specifically in IT) knows anything about this supposed quote or has heard any more layoffs.

Is there any other source for this? I cannot find anything about it anywhere besides that one post. When Guidewell announced a 3% reduction a reduction a year ago is was announced in a bunch of industry specific news sources. A 25-40% cut would be NAITONAL business news.

@16d He didn't hire himself either in CF or GW. BP is a symptom of a much bigger problem.

What a POS. He cares about NO ONE. Trust.. I was close enough to see it live. Smh. God bless whomever (and I hope they’re good) that follows that piece of trash. Anything Chet Burrell had did… this guy undid it.

Did anyone really expect anything different? The guy is a politician at heart with a last minute online degree making millions. He doesn’t care about people or a company he cares only about what ends up in his pocket. FL BCBS chose him, that’s their own fault
