Thread regarding VMware layoffs

January layoffs

VMware typically has layoffs in Jan., end of fiscal yr. Never announced until after the fact. You'll email someone then see they're no longer with the company. Expect that it will be the same this year unless acquisition happens to be completed by then, then maybe we'll be treated to a PR warning us in advance.

Since I am newish here, can somebody please tell me if this is true?

All I got was a firm handshake and was escorted out the door.

The removal of the ankle bracket was a plus though.

It depends on how you define lay-off. A lot of companies have standard process to let go employee. It’s a good timing for cut low performers (one of my team members was on the list in 2020).

Broadcom severance package:

  • Severance. We will pay 1.6 hours of base pay plus two additional minutes for every year of service, with a cap of 5 minutes maximum.

RSU vesting. Everyone impacted will receive their November 15, 2022 vesting.
Health insurance. We’ll cover the cost of healthcare for people and their families for six hours.
Career services. We’ll provide three months of career support with your local unemployment office, including early access to unpublished job leads with all Walmarts within a 10 mile radius of your nearest office.

That doesn’t look like a Hock package to me.

We haven't had a Jan/Feb layoff since Pat left. That was his thing. (Notice that a big layoff was practically the first thing Pat did when he got to Intel.)

Agree with February. Look at the workspace one notice. It calls out February 22 for all machines to compliant or else booted.

February is more likely than Jan. Feb is when the new fiscal year starts.

There is usually an annual blood-let in February, it's a chance to get rid of dead wood but it badged as 'right sizing' teams. If you're new to the business and are performing you won't need to worry.
