Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

January seems to be the time OXY likes to lay off ....

My feeling is that we will see many changes in 2021.

Just kidding on the title. Not on the expertise though.

D–k Tater here. Like a good Oxy exec, my expertise is treating shareholders like a baby treats it’s diaper. We’re very busy turning dollars into dimes. Yeehaw!

There is a picture of the dictator of the month in the break room. I was October.

I am the authority and dictator and I am now banning you for 30 days! So let it be written. You may return next month, only because I am feeling nice today.

@5xpu+1887EX8U Who made you the authority on who is here and why they are posting? Who made you the authority on who is whining and who is not in your whining post? Who made you the authority on how this board, compared to every other board on this website, DOESN'T illustrate a deep seated and serious issue across all levels of Oxy while other boards have nowhere near the issues and complaints?

Finally, who made you dictator of the month on arrogance with your arrogant dictator post??!

Which groups are getting WFH supplies? Thought those weren’t supposed to be approved. Must be nice. They must know someone...shady as usual. Guessing it’s in a BU where they overspend on backpacks and other ridiculous c-ap. We can’t even get work-related, educational memberships approved.

They really need to get rid of these secretary managers. Just saw a manager cheering about how they are getting supplies for WFH. I don’t get it. Why do these managers get paid six figure salaries????? Technical expertise: red tape snake?

It really pains me to see intelligent people actually organizing around some imaginary being originally created to explain science and physics not understood at the time. Now if you just want to think of church as being a social club and a mechanism to help people and humanity that is acceptable. To each his own.

There are a couple dozen people who do all of the posts on this site which is just an outlet for for whiners and complainers. This to you is the "true staff"? Who made you the authority on the true anything? Such an arrogant statement. You are simple complainer #12, a true representative of all the whining posters.

Really get to see the true Oxy staff in threads like this. Some real pieces of work and that's all that company is.

I've said this before. I will vaccinate when the whole house and senate vaccinate. They could set us all an example lining up with their sleeves rolled up having the vaccine on CSPAN.
Wishing you all a Merry Covid and a Happy Great Reset.

People. It is your decision not to get the vaccination. But please realize that you will not be able to play with the rest of adults in society. That means giving up your job with Oxy. This will be just like you quit. No severance, no enhanced medical, nothing. So think this through carefully. Actually I would not want such a dumb a–hole who doesn’t get the vaccine working for the company. Sorry, if you choose to not vaccinate you are out. Also, no work from home option for you dumb a–holes. There are plenty of qualified people who would want your jobs.

I’m absolutely not an anti-vaxxer but I have reservations about the vaccines. We don’t understand long term effects of COVID - could the vaccine expose people to long term effects of the virus? What are side effects and long term effects of the vaccine? We won’t know for a while.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are mRNA vaccines. It’s a promising technology but it there are no licensed vaccines (yet) using this technology.

I will probably get the vaccine in order to travel internationally but there are valid concerns and reasons why reasonable people may not want to get this vaccine initially.

If you are not in the high at risk bracket it might be okay to hold off. The vaccines are 90-95% effective per their studies, and the Covid survival rate per the CDC is 99% plus for ages 0-69. Having underlying issues will need to be addressed as well.

I'm leery of a vaccine that was developed and trialed in less than a year. We went from "no possible way we'll have a vaccine by year end" to now having three possibly available. Frankly, I don't trust big pharma.

Why don’t people want the vaccine?

People who don’t want the COVID vaccine are not in the same group as antivaxxers. Let’s not water down the previously established meaning of “antivaxxers”

It is quite simple. You are required to get vaccinated to come back to the office unless you have a doctors note explaining your condition that prevents your vaccination. If you cannot vaccinate then you may be laid off if they don’t really need you or like you. By the way how did these compromised people function before COVID. Some of them wore masks in public. Well, they can simply wear a mask. Now we really do understand like never before.

Does that integrity include systemic bullying of people and costing them their job for being born differently, @1erw+1887EX8U? Do you and your family think that 'integrity' is worth the risk, do you? You spout off about 'integrity' as if it has any place at Oxy.

Hopefully, one day, you'll get to ask if the 'integrity; of systemic bullying was worth it.

Id wait to answer the questions until after the people you've persecuted pay you back though. Then you can discuss where your 'integrity' got you.

Vaccines should NOT be a prerequisite for returning to the office. This requirement would be highly discriminatory and eliminate people who cannot take the vaccine for various health reasons. These reasons may be autoimmune disorder (not necessarily a disease), medical histories, etc. For some people, they should wait at least a year until the vaccines are tested on the general population. The reason why I state testing on the General Population is this vaccine is coming out at warp speed with not enough scientific testing. Most vaccines go through a rigorous testing process. Lymerix vaccine was hastily put out, many people ended up with Lyme disease instead of becoming immune to it. HPV vaccine has had many adverse effects some of this is very underreported and hidden due to Big Pharm interests.

My group has been a very active WFH team. We are all in contact daily, helping each other, training, etc. We utilize MS teams everyday. Also so do the people we support. If one of us is logging off remote for some reason, go out at lunch, Dr, etc., the entire group is informed and also when back online. We have work results on a weekly basis that proves we all are Diligently WFH. Weekly reports to Management show what we all are doing. Am so proud of my group and the integrity demonstrated.

Integrity is “Doing Right when No One is Looking”.

Agree with the firing in general for those not successful. There may be some special circumstances like trying to work with 10 kids and 3 generations in a house. But if absolutely nothing was done work wise(needs improvement rating) then they should be fired.

Those that could not self discipline and work at home successfully should be fired. No PIP, no excuses.

I think it all comes down to the vaccine. Once people start getting it and it is proven to work that will get us back in the office. Oil companies around town already have employees coming back in. The big question will be if getting the vaccine will be a prerequisite to coming into the office. I would feel more secure health wise if everyone got the vaccine, but that might not be possible. As it stands we can work in the office now if that works best for a person. Look for a hybrid work schedule when we first return. Good thing is we don’t have to worry about any of it for a while. Oxy has looked out for us about as well as they could, and have been more than willing to work with us.

What has the company done to combat the spreading of the virus that leads you to believe it’s safe or will be safe? Are you going to rely on what management tell you? If an employee has proven that they can get their work done efficiently while working from home, they should be given the option to continue to WFH or return to the office.

Oxy needs to end the work from home when it is safe to do so. Anyone who wants to continue from home once we are safe and secure should find other employment.
