Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Job Cuts

I’ve heard rumors from my management and from this page. Is anyone willing to share some info besides “wait until next week”? It’s always such a stressful time, and I’ve seen too many cuts and know most management just plays d-mb.

Store layoffs happen when you’re not making sales. There is a budget for a 10mil store, 15mil, 20mil, 30mil, etc… The amount of allocated store employees depend on the store’s volume. Spring targets are coming out after inventory!

Does anyone know what type of store level employees will be affected, like FT, Captains or even Management?

Severance for FT and Captains? LOL! Why would they give severance to hourly employees?? I'm one myself and would have no expectation of severance.

Ok, in answer to MTech layoffs, quite a few positions outsourced, or just cut. Largest layoff since outsource of field staff. Uncertain on severance packages for in-store staff. My guess, probably. Jobs will be cut across the board, nearly all levels, Corporate and in-store. I don't believe all layoffs will be announced on Wed. HR will meet with individuals in affected areas. The schedule is being put together and adjusted now. Difficult time for all. Hang in there.

Macys has always been a snail with any innovation, highly doubt that AI will replace photography 🤦‍♀️

Thank You for reply! I did read on here about outsourcing as well, since Im a photo art director, based on some research it would make sense if they were to start outsourcing work from photo studio to start with still life team unfortunately. Its confusing they are investing so much $ into private brand launches: On 34th, sleepwear, menswear, kids etc. I was also told before leaving for holiday our site is going to be returning to all full face photography, which of course is an investment. The superior business decisions (cuts) may be out of many of our directors knowledge, or not, cant get a feel for this. My gut also tells me in the near end, macys will become an online business only, I hate to say it, but between the debt, the buyout offers etc it may happen. Sears, JCP, Lord & Taylor are all online still.

Anybody has any details on how MTech is going to be affected by these layoffs? Which departments are getting cut or replaced by offshore teams?

Your HSA, 401k, etc. is all protected. I’m not sure about the commuter benefits though.

I agree on the attrition piece as well. There has been a hiring freeze for corporate unless it was an emergency need that required executive approval. My guess is all of the held positions that were “supposed” to be posted in January will just get eliminated. I’ve heard some similar rumors about sending some jobs offshore, but I don’t have enough detail to offer anything else.

I'm on PTO & REFUSE to contact my boss to ask, so I am relying on this group for guidance, in the meantime I am armoring up...will save stuff from the server, I will look into our HSA & Commuter benefits because I'm not sure how or if we can transfer or lose that $. I will continue to read all posts, I do believe regardless the ones who survive will have another 2/3 roles absorbed into their current positions.

Is the company offering severance package for the full time associates and captains?

This seems awfully early, in years gone by it would take until near the end of the year for these announcements. So I'm skeptical. They also haven't done actual layoffs in a while now, usually they cut the jobs and reduce staff through attrition. But who knows? I'll get my popcorn ready anyway.

The layoffs being put in place this coming Tuesday , is that company wide, both stores & corporate ?
I know from the below threads it is said, we wait until Tuesday, public announcements Weds., I would assume they will do a clean sweep all at once?

Are jobs going to be cut at the store level or just mainly corporate?

If your store is closing, there will be a team meeting on Tuesday. Macy’s will announce on Wed and the G.O.B will begin on Sunday with the liquidator's and their team taking over your store.

I know it's tuff, I have been in your shoes! Went through this every January for 30 years. Restructure, bankruptcy, etc. From what I know, the layoffs will be done on Tuesday, announced on Wednesday. This could change. Noone is going to tell you before then.
