Thread regarding Sears layoffs

no time to look for another job?

Everyone says it’s easiest to look for another job while you already have one, but in my case that’s not the case.

Looking for a job is literally a full time job as well, and when I’m done with my shift I don’t have the energy to look for open positions elsewhere.

After a stressful day at work, children and family obligations are waiting for me at home, which is an additional stress...

If only I could have a few days off to get my life in order. Some may say it’s my laziness, but I really feel that way - total depression.

With no customers and most associates playing on their phones all day, you should have a solid 8 hours every day to look for another job.

OP, here you are on the internet talking about how hard it is to find a job. So instead of the lament that you just can't find the time to go out and apply for jobs, get on whatever retailer's site that you would like to work for and find their Careers page.

OP you know why you don't have time and energy because Sears is overworking you like a dog! When things were getting bad I just started to do the bare minimum manager would complain and ask so much it was overwhelming. In my department we needed at the least 3 people with over 30 hours it got to the point only one had over 30 hours and the other 2 under 15 it was out of control.

When I got here and saw that stores were closing I told lots of my close co workers start applying jump the sinking ship before its to damn late. A lot ignored me, thought I was crazy, were loyal puppets to a company and a store manager that didn't give a care for them. Out of no where store closed people got screwed.

OP get your act together and start applying do one application at a time Sears isnt worth it. Where I am at I got my W2 I have made compared to Sears 3 times more. Its insane how much more money I have made with actual benefits I am glad I left Sears because honestly it was life draining it was just sad...

OP in a way your at fault because you should of left the company a while back. A lot were sheep to the company stayed loyal I understand if you were an old person ready to go, but if you arent your wasting your time make up time talk to you family and get the flipping out of this sh!t hole!

"Corporate is watching, so be careful what you disclose."

Really? Who cares? If they fire you, so what? It's coming anyway, and once the store closes your future employers will not be able to call Sears for a reference.

Can't walk into a retail store around here without seeing a desperate "help wanted, interview immediately!" sign. Unless you are a 6 figure manager, you're going to find another retail job in about 30 seconds if you look

Someone mentioned a store closing below. Which one? If it's already liquidating, then it isn't a secret and you should be able to let us Know which one, right? Also, would I be able to verify this by calling that store? Happy New Year BTW!

Is it legal to stop severance pay?

That's the word going around here. All property is for sale or lease. Merchandise is not available. Corporate is watching, so be careful what you disclose.

I just got word that my store is closing, even though there is no other use for the property. The word is that Lampert’s NOL’s are not a valuable as they once were. I was told by my RM that this is definitely the beginning of the end for all remaining Sears stores. Online may stay, but he is uncertain if the supply chain can be maintained. Has anyone else received similar news?

Eddie Lambert should look at reopening some stores to create jobs. Probably sell Guam to Kmart Austria and reopen 5 Kmarts in the U.S.A.

You are:

  1. Working for a company (i.e., Sears) that is being intentionally run into the ground with no concern about your future.
  2. Working within a pandemic environment in which you are constantly trying to ward off a novel virus attack.
  3. Working in an environment in which economic disaster is all around you and you are constantly concerned that you will be the next to crash and burn.
  4. Working in an economy in which more and more companies are failing and cannot continue to exist, let alone hire new employees.

Is it any wonder that you are exhausted at the end of the day? You need to be congratulated for just making it to the end of the day. I admire what you accomplish just getting through the day.
