Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Non-closing Kmarts

Hearing from colleagues at other Kmarts they are being told to take down counters entirely and bring counters to lower heights in some departments.

They are also being sent more four-way garment racks to spread out apparel on the floor.

Our store barely has enough to fill the racks we already have.

What's going on in your store? Comment below.

I love knowing how empty space is beautified in the stores.

Don’t take too many down, there’ll be plenty of time to do that during liquidation. Drag out that paycheck as long as you can.

Our store received a ton of men's and women's clothing the past week. 99 percent of it is winter. So either it's getting to us late or the buyers botched the orders. Right now we would usually be getting in spring apparel and start clearancing winter.

Not that we didn't already know it was over, but you REALLY know it's over when you don't even have the magical plastic totes to fluff out the aisles anymore.

NJ here. This week we broken down around 48 full gondolas (6 aisles) from Home, polished the floor and expanded apparel into the area. We are already a tiny store and it looks sad. The Home area was previously our bedding and soft line home department and had become ridiculously sparse with product. We basically no longer carry sheets and have a very limited supply of comforters. Towels are coming in under a new brand (no more Cannon—the new brand is Hudson, I think). However we are still serviced by Coke, Frito Lay/Pepsi and C&S, who delivers grocery. Our Pantry dept is fully stocked.

I foresee more breaking down of aisles and opening up space. Why wait until liquidation to do that if we don’t have product for the shelves?

We also have tons of Valentines c-ap everywhere and now Easter. I never remember this much Easter c-ap. And I do mean c-ap.

Hometown stores can be as small at 8,000 sq. Ft. Most are franchised

Mr Links is down voting everyone. Please ignore him. Most of us do want to hear what's going on in other stores.

So Cal Kmart store here. We are moving departments around to make room for more apparel. Housewares is very light on merchandise. Pepsi Rep is supposed to stop bringing in more product and going to take fridges from our checkstands. Frito Lay will no longer service out store. Our sales are down 40% daily.

Anyone that would transfer anything at this point is a dumbshit. They’re all closing.

Aren't Sears Hometown stores a lot smaller than Kmarts, and also aren't they franchises?

Big Bear Kmart person here. I did hear something about how they are going to convert our Kmart into Sears Hometown stores. Getting rid of more apparel and put in more appliances and changing our outside logo to the ugly Sears. Yet they are also keeping the Little Caesars inside as well...not sure if this 100% true but seems like it is going to happen. Not sure what it will accomplish, it will still fail but whatever.
