I thought I'd retire here, but now I doubt I'll last even until the end of the year.

@1nt good luck
@1e1
I am also working in Albany site, yes. From what I have see here for many years, same kind of situation always happening. Only small few people, they are the ones who actually benefit when these things come. For me, I don’t really see myself staying until past after mid-summer, this is my own plan and timeline, I am thinking to move on at that time. It is my personal goal.
@1e2
Correct this isn’t what they want you to think it is or what they are portraying in media. It’s actually a correction for major mistakes made by the leadership there
@1e2 the us government isn’t the customer?
@1e2 dude they don’t want anyone saying or pointing that out
@1e1 ibm spin brother - ask yourself one question - who is buying ? Who is the customer they will sell too? Albany line is not designed to HVM - just prototyping. And IBM doesn’t even own the line.
@1e0 the newspaper makes it seem quantum fixed Albany with the federal government money
Albany here - nope definitely not
No - just like when are dead, you are not around for life.
No as soon as I can I am leaving
No
Highly unlikely. I fit all of the criteria for being let go: male, white, late 50s, B10, 30 years here, etc. 100% believe that I won't be here next year.
I have good news related to why I see myself here in a year. I met with my first line manager and told him my ideas about improving IBM employee Engagement and Morale. HE was really impressed! He asked me to write up a list of suggestions he can use on our team
I know its only one team, but big things begin with small steps.
I really hope not, unless I make a lateral move or get promoted into an IBM team that is actually making a difference to deliver results. What’s driving me batshit are three things:
- Lack of growth in my current role
- Zero challenge in work
- Abysmal opportunities to grow
I never thought I’d feel this way when I joined the company over a decade ago.
Due to the nature of my organization, and the fact I have flexible hours and flexible RTO mandate - yeah. In addition to the fact that applying to jobs between 2024-2025 resulting in several final interviews across the top companies that ended in failure because the requirements of memorization for leetcode was insane. I have no choice but to ride out this job until I am laid off due to some factor.
I will be here, if I'm not in jail.
Bob just deleted the terraform for ibm cloud and your 401k.
@ah Agreed. Albany can likely sustain momentum for at least the next three years on the strength of the quantum narrative alone. However, if we fail to secure a meaningful customer or strategic partner, that momentum will eventually dissipate, much like many of the prior initiatives that generated excitement but ultimately lacked commercial traction.
@a9 I was in Albany and left because I felt there is no long term future for me and need to work another 20 years. I had no confidence I’d still be there even in a year
Why not? I am paid well, I don't work too hard... There is no incentives for me to leave!
@OP are you in Albany? With all that is going on behind the scenes here - no. Planning and trying to set up my exit strategy asap
And I hope you don't have my post deleted just because its positive Musst I be negative like everyone else ?
@a6 When you actually start doing real work and the pressure builds after 5pm, nights, weekends etc, and you realize you were lied to about that promotion - among other things - maybe then you'll learn your lesson and stop chugging the blue kool aid.
I definitely do. And as a Band 7 as my manager tells me I am on my way to that level. This summer I plan on leading a team for the Watson X challenge.
I now have over 80 hours in Think 40 and will be finishing another badge this weekend.
No. Phuque this place. Every week there's a new fire. Every day there's a new expansion of our job roles with no additional pay. This place is misery with no support from upper management.
